Who's Ready for an "X-Files" Sequel?
by Scott Weinberg | May 19, 2006
Discuss Article
"X-Files" writer Frank Spotnitz seems pretty certain that a second movie version of the cult TV series will happen ... eventually. But there's still the issue of a lawsuit between Fox and X-Creator Chris Carter that has to be ironed out first.

From Sci-Fi Wire: "One point of contention in getting a second "X-Files" film off the ground: Series creator Chris Carter is still wrangling with 20th Century Fox over legal matters. "David, Gillian and I, and even Chris Carter, all have deals in place, and once the legal issues are over with, we will go on with it," Spotnitz said. "I'm hoping it will get resolved soon."

Although the script isn't written, the idea is already developed, Spotnitz said. He added that Fox likes the idea, which harkens back to the series' stand-alone episodes rather than the conspiracy to cover up the existence of extra-terrestrials, which was the subject of the first X-Files movie."

Boy, that Gillian Andersome dame is still hot! And Duchovny is also still very hot among his female fans... I just hope they make the sequel a litte more intersting and more exciting that the first X-files movie-- more in the lines of the better and sharp episodes of the 4th and 5th seasons. Good luck!

I'd be on this like a fat kid on a Smartie. We haven't had a good paranormal/conspiracy movie in a while.

I'm surprised Gillian Anderson hasn't been in more things since the show. It really seemed like she was rising star. And the episode that she wrote and directed was really well done, she seems very talented on either side of the camera.

As a fan of the show, I've got mixed feelings about a stand-alone story with no conspiracy. I guess it makes sense to seperate it from the TV series.

What's weird is Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny hate each other in real life.

As long as the story is new and original and has no ties to the show's conspiracy theory, I'm there. This could be a great franchise if the writers came up with some good, scary stories and didn't feel obligated to satisify those who simple want a big screen version of the TV show like the first film. I really miss the chemistry between Scully and Mulder.

They need to break away from the alien thing for a movie or 2 and then tie it all up with the last movie....

I have been ready for a sequel ever since the last film, I think they missed the boat in waiting so long, they could have turn The X-files into a nice film series like Star Trek, now who knows how much success it will have.

Good news. The first film was bloody awful, well below the standard of any given episode. And yeah please please please give up the whole aliens/conspiracy theory!

I am not sure Gillian Anderson would sign for it though

I never really cared much for Mulder... his speeches were too preachy for me. But that was probably because I was younger =/

Anyway, yeah, sounds cool. I wonder where in the seriesline (as opposed to storyline *nudge nudge*) this is gonna take place though.

I am probably the only one that thinks it was a good idea to wait. This will give time for some left over plot lines to either die/expand as well allow different people to assume diferent roles. You can not be a director/agent forever without moving up/down the ranks or just dieing.
