Three More Climb Aboard "X-Men 3"
by Scott Weinberg | August 16, 2005
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Stax over at IGN Filmforce has scored a nifty little exclusive that may prove interesting to you "X-Man" fans: Bill Duke, Michael Murphy, and Olivia Williams have signed on for roles in Brett Ratner's "X-Men 3."

Veteran character actor Bill Duke, who's been in movies like "Predator," "Exit Wounds," and the upcoming "Get Rich or Die Tryin'," will play a presidential cabinet member; Michael Murphy ("Batman Returns," "Silver City") will play the father of new X-character Angel; and Ms. Williams ("The Sixth Sense," "Peter Pan") will play Dr. Moira McTaggert (who, in the comic books, shared a romantic history with Professor X.)

This is becoming Batman 4 (batman and robin)
Lots and lots of characters work in a 22 page comic book that comes out every month. It doesn't work in a 2 hour movie.

thank you lone chicken
that's a GREAT point. This are all background characters, though, maybe they'll have one line each.

Bratt Fatner Sucks-
Don't Forget the fact that this movie is due for release in less than 9 MONTHS!!!! They're still casting nine months out from their release date!!!! These dumbasses already have posters out, but haven't shot a single foot of film. Why Brian singer, why did you have to be lured in by the DC world????

I really have lost all interest in this "project". The producers have continued to screw themselves over time and again, and the directing and casting choices so far have been less than inspired. Like Fantastic Four and Elektra before, I might just end up skipping this one altogether. Take a hint from Warner Bros, Fox. Until then...

the bigwigs at Twentieth Century Fox hated X-Men since the first film. they gave Singer a shitty budget and little time to do the first film (which pretty much explains why the third act sucked like it did), and tried to cut the budget of the second film. so they pretty much gave Singer hell since Day 1. so his jump to DC to do Superman Returns is understandable. now they've got that hack Brett Ratner directing and (from the script i've seen) pretty much rehashing X2's script for X3. they're effectively trying to kill a franchise that has done nothing but put money in their pockets because they hold grudges.

I don't care how many new characters they substitute, without Nightcrawler, X3 won't be as good as 2.

Nightcrawler
I always thought Nightcrawler was kind of bland until he moved over to Excalibur. But I agree, X2 made him so cool. There just doesn't seem to be any room in X3 for guys like Beast, Angel, and Juggernaut to breathe let alone characters like Moira and hints of Gambit. My guess is, they'll all get something like a Colossus/X2 treatment, but with a lesser director. Why not just throw in Dazzler, Longshot, the Shiar Empire, and the origins of Rogue's Ms. Marvel powers while they're at it. Hell, they have a whole 9 months left!

Everyone settle down
ok everybody needs to settle down here. Lets give it a chance and see if it really will suck or not when it comes out. I agree that it's sad that Brian Singer is not longer involved, and that Fox needs to get there butts in gear and start filming. Speaking of Singer, am I the only only one not onboard with the Superman remake?

Yeah, we may all criticize Ratner, but we do know that we're going to be the first in the row on opening day to see this one. Let's give the guy a chance, he's at most competent. If his movies suck (like After the Sunset, for example) I blame it rather on the scripts, which are very lame. If the script for X3 is good (I haven't seen any hints of it on the internet yet, and anyway those posts are not reliable...), then the guy will do a nice job. Let's just remember all the skepticism around Singer before he actually released Xmen... then he proved to do an amazing job.
And yeah, I agree, I'm not very excited about the Superman remake at all, unless I see soon a trailer that blows my mind. Then again, I was never a huge fan of that character anyway.
