Shawn Ashmore Ponders "X-Men" Sequel Possibilities

The net has been buzzing about the "Wolverine" prequel since Hugh Jackman has been on the PR circuit for four consecutive films in a month, but the other X-men deserve some love too. Like Shawn Ashmore, who plays Iceman. He's available.

"I have a contract if they make another one that I have one more film," Ashmore said. "There are sort of rumors about an 'X-Men 4' or something like that but as far as I've been told, 'X3' was going to be the last sort of big, ensemble 'X-Men' movie. I would love if they made another one but I'm not sure that they will."

It doesn't have to be "X-Men 4" though. There is more than one spin-off in the works, and a proposed Mutant Academy movie might have a place for young Iceman. "I didn't know that there were any," Ashmore confessed.

"I've heard rumors on the internet about a young mutant spinoff but that's so created on some chat board somewhere," he continues. "It could be real, it could have leaked from somewhere but as far as officially from the people that are actually making the movies, I haven't heard anything like that. I know they're doing a 'Wolverine' prequel and I heard a rumor, and this isn't for sure, about a 'Magneto' film but those are all in the past, like prequels and origin stories."

Cool. Iceman was one of my favorites. Despite what people say, I really think X3 was the best out of all of them. It was just a fun, action packed, explosion filled fight-fest, which is what they all should have been. I forgot what happened in the first X-Men an hour after I saw it.

The only good thing about X-Men 3 was that Iceman finally looked like Iceman. Why it took three movies to do that is a mystery to me. But honestly, I'd like to see a 4th

a 'new mutants' flick would work for me. expand the universe a bit and like that 'heroes' show i haven't seen shows there is a wider audience for this kinda thing.

Only haters of the comic book form can embrace X:3. Anyone who knows anything about X Men knows that the mythology is far more than an "explosion filled fight fest." Hollywood's crowning achievements seems to be a collective disdain for fine storytelling in exchange for mindless entertainment.

blah blah blah. i happen to be a fan of X-men. And i also happen to be a fan of the third movie. People complain waaaayyy too much about that one. It was a fun movie. My only gripe was the treatment of Dark Pheonix. They DID kinda waste the hell out of that part of the story.

there was a third x-men movie?? oh oh my mistake, you mean the movie that ruined the Phoenix storyline, had 0 character development, SPOILER

KILLED off one of the leading x-men characters (i won't say even anything about xavier), and was otherwise a bloated piece of dung. if that the x-men movie everyone is talking about, i found it more akin to naked gun 33 1/3 vs a true sequel, so technically, shawn ashmore (sorry if i got the name wrong) is still signed for two more sequels, which would be the real x3 and x4.

here's my suggestion, fire brett ratner, hire bryan singer (thereby saving us from a sequel to the bloated snoozefest superman returns (i heard the sequel will be called 'superman returns again' and that he has already signed a deal to pen 'superman returns for the umpteenth time' and 'superman has becoming a boring franchise, but let's ruin it some more'

the X-Men movies were supposed to be classics, but these films will be forgotten in a few more years--they're the superhero equivalent of Independence Day (When's the last time anyone has watched that???)

Wait a decade or two and try again--until then I'll just enjoy the Spiderman films

Uh... I watched Independence day last week.....

But besides that, I dont think there should be an Iceman movie,mostly because I think that they are allready milking the cash cow with BOTH a Magneto and Wolverine movie.
The last thing I want is to go into my local theater in some summer years from now, just to see 2 hours of Iceman.....

liono your entitled to your opinion, as wrong as it is, but it doesn't change the fact that i am correct, the celluloid pile of feces posing as an xmen movie entitled x-3 was atrocious and screwed up the good store...oh nevermind, i like the xmen movies coz i want to stare at famke jannsen, so i guess that actually means x3 was good in that respect... ramble ramble..

I watched Independence Day a few months ago. :)

And I'd like to see an X-men next generation type movie. Sort of where our younger mutants (Rouge, Kitty Pryde, Iceman, Angel) have gotten a little older and a little more sure of their powers. I'd like to see this for a few reasons. One is I'd like to see Rouge get her powers back after the "cure" wears off and become the badass she was on the comics. Also, I feel like these actors won't be whining about getting more screen time (unlike some people AHEM) so the screenwriters won't have to act like they need to appease their actors as much. That way, they can focus on just writing a good script.

Granted, I wouldn't want this thing to come out next year. Have it come out after the spin offs. Then the movies will less be about "kids with powers" and more about the new generation of mutants.

Here we go with the "whining about screentime" argument again. Actors complain about a lot of frivolous things, be it their already bloated paychecks and their precious screentime, but Berry's rant happens to ultimately address one of the franchise's consistent flaws -the clumsy disregard of Storm, one of the most integral characters in the comic. Let's not even talk about the disaster they made of Cyclops. Feh.

X-3 was good in my own opinion... and I also love the comic series. I understand that the movies had to take certain liberties and that is a guarentee to piss off die hard fan boys (and gals) who think it should all go one way... and one way only. I have to say that while I did enjoy X2 the most, I was quite pleased with how much more Storm had been developed this go round. Yes, the dispatch of Cyclops was a waste (and I know... in the comic world he and Jean had this huge wedding) and I thought Angel was criminally underused. Each movie had its plusses and each had its misses. Maybe a 4th will please EVERYBODY but it is doubtful because there will always be something not absolutely perfect.
And... I do not think X-3 was mindless entertainment. Sure, it seemed all fluffed up with action, but there was some decent emotion, development... and even... dare I say it... plot. I think (as mentioned before) the ones ultimately disapointed with this installment are the ones who expected a 100% transfer of comic to big screen... and that just wid not happen.

I try not to criticize people's movie choices. I swear. However, anyone who thinks the third X-men was the BEST really needs to reconsider. Please, think really hard. Go back and see all the other movies again, in a row. Then sleep on it.

And badmoviecritic, you're incredibly moronic. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, yet they're all wrong? You idiot. Just because the directors changed the movie from the comic, you're all perturbed? Instead of making a predictable storyline with predictable events based on the comics you've read already, they mix it up, and make it different. I hope they make a fourth one and complete destroy the comic line just to destroy the spirits of the comic nerds who always want things to go one way.

Its semi amusing to see people rant about how a movie wasn't made exactly like a book or comic. That wont ever happen in the movie industry, they need to appeal to a broader audience then just us geeks, therefore there will be characters getting more light, characters getting less, characters being changed etc. Sadly we have to take what we can and be content.

The other thing we have to remember is there are so many different time lines where the X-men are concerned. I mean there have been various characters introduced into the comics because they came from a parallel time line, the future, etc. So who is to say that what we see on the screen isn't another time line. There have also been a few characters killed in the comics themselves and brought back to life, Pheonix/Jean not included. The comics at some points messed up their own storyline, i.e. Rogue's story was written 20 years before it was introduced into the actual printed comic. That in it's self threw in contradictions. People can rant and rave about how the movie(s) were crap because it didn't follow the comics exactly but that just means you don't take the time to look into other factors in both the industry and the multiple variations the characters could take. Everyone is entitled to their opinions yes but don't be so closed minded either.
