Hosted by prominent newscasters such as Walter Cronkite, Charles Collingwood, and Mike Wallace, the show had a team of excellent writers, many of whom, significantly, were blacklisted in Hollywood by the House of Un-American Activities Committee during the era of Mcarthyism. The show, directed by Sidney Lumet (SERPICO, DOG DAY AFTERNOON), was used to combat the anti-Communist witch hunt that was going on at the time, painting a noble picture of the human spirit prevailing against oppressive forces.
