One of Francis Ford Coppola's earliest films, YOU'RE A BIG BOY NOW is a wacky joy ride back to the 1960s. In New York City, 19-year-old Bernard Chanticleer (Peter Kastner) is a library clerk, roller-skating between the stacks of the New York Public Library. Bernard moves away from home and the clutches of his overprotective parents (Geraldine Page and Rip Torn) and into a boardinghouse run by the spinster Miss Thing (Julie Harris). He soon gets a crash course in women by way of Amy (Karen Black), a library assistant who falls in love with him, and Barbara Darling (Elizabeth Hartman), a wacky Greenwich Village actress/go-go dancer. Bernard tries hard to lead the life of a swinging playboy like his friend Raef (Tony Bill), but his love of milk, his mother's nagging, and his dog named Dog all seem to get in his way. Over the course of the film, the clumsy, naive Bernard becomes a man--but not before his heart gets broken once or twice. The Lovin' Spoonful performs the music for the film, including the title track. [More]
