An empty-headed yet kindhearted male model, the self-absorbed Derek becomes an unwitting pawn in a international assassination plot masterminded by oddball fashion dictator Jacobim Mugatu (Will Ferrell). Meanwhile, the clueless cover guy must also contend with a new rival, a blonde hipster named Hansel (Owen Wilson). Only adding to his troubles is Matilda Jeffries (Christine Taylor), an inquisitive and sensitive journalist. Stiller's charming and silly comedy liberally skewers the fashion industry while showcasing the actor-director-screenwriter's quirky humor. He casts his real-life family in the film: wife Christine Taylor, sister Amy Stiller, father Jerry Stiller, and mother Anne Meara. As a director, Stiller invokes entertaining performances from Wilson and Ferrell. He also adds cameos by a multitude of celebrities including David Bowie, Natalie Portman, and Lenny Kravitz. [More]

Serves as glossy, throwaway fun, and it features more cameos than you can shake a mascara wand at.

When the film's low aims are attacked with such ferocious energy and style, one is too busy laughing to complain.

Embraces the thing it criticizes and continues to prop up and promote the ephemeral careers of these fashionistas and MTV darlings.

I laughed from start to finish at the film, and some of the potshots Stiller takes at the modeling profession are classic.

During its fleeting moments onscreen, the movie's lighthearted spirit and comic energy make for entertaining, escapist fare.

If you have ever watched a fashion model strut down the walkway and thought they were too full of themselves, Zoolander will strike you as 90 minutes of poetic justice.

A confirmation of Stiller as a bona-fide triple-threat artist, a savvy actor/writer/director whose fingers are solidly on the pop culture pulse of America.

Stiller's third outing as feature-film director is as vacant as its protagonist's pretty (as if) head.

The most disappointing thing about Stiller's film is that all it appears to be saying is that male models don't seem to have a lot between the ears.

In a different world, the film would be just another five-minute skit blown up until it's not funny anymore; as it is, it's tasteless and offensive to boot.

So delightfully over the top, so satisfied with its own daft abilities, that it verges on some new sort of comic classicism.
