Though it appears to be a brain-dead comedy, it at least has a little something to say about American suburbia in the 1990s -- a specialty of director Penelope Spheeris.

Consensus: An oddball comedy that revels in its silliness and memorable catch phrases, Wayne's World is also fondly regarded because of its endearing characters.

Wayne and Garth, the horny, heavy metal-loving teenage heroes of the popular "Saturday Night Live" skit, hit the big screen. As the babe 'n' band obsessed adolescents negotiate the shark-infested waters of network television, Wayne finds 'amore' in the form of a heavy metal femme fatale with a penchant for skin-tight costumes. Reviews for Wayne's World
It's snickering, silly and, at times, downright demented (Bugs Bunny in a dress?), but that's why it works.
Hollywood surely accepts the movie's message: laughter is the least expensive therapy. And audiences may happily parrot another Wayneism to Myers: 'He shoots! He scores!'
Confronts the cultural emptiness of late 20th-century life head-on, revealing a profound hollowness in the heart of modern man (and babe).
Director Penelope Spheeris, with her first major studio assignment (and eight-figure budget), delivers a colorful but uneventful picture.
Much of the credit for the film's success lies with Spheeris, whose confident if rough-edged direction keeps it on track and cooking.
