Based on the comic book of the same name, BLADE (Snipes) is a half-mortal, half-immortal bent on avenging his mother's death and destined to rid the earth of a race of vampires. Meanwhile, the modern-day technologically advanced vamps he's targeted are in pursuit of his special blood type needed to summon an evil god who plays a key role in their plan to execute the human race. A dark action thriller from the director of Death Machine and the writer of The Crow: City of Angels and Dark City with plenty of blood and guts. [More]

Achieves just the right combination of lore and fetishized action movie.

Ideal summer fare: quite enjoyable, and equally disposable.

A reasonably diverting videogame of a movie but not successful entertainment.

Though slick and diverting in some aspects, increasingly silly pic has trouble meshing disparate elements -- horror, superhero fantasy, straight-up action -- into a workable whole.

An attempt to redefine cutting edge horror, this techno-vampire pic is spoiled by the same weak storytelling and flashy, computer game visuals.

You end up with a fast-paced, sci-fi, action hero, monster movie that screams, the makers hope, for a franchise.

Dark and edgy comic book characters, punctuated by a hypnotic techno soundtrack and jaw-dropping action. Snipes was born to play the role. Dorff delivers a fantastic villain.

The acting is overblown, the special effects are impressive, and the violence is loud and often. Just like in a comic strip.

There are lots of stunts, chase sequences and so much computer morphing that the effects house must have been offering it at discount.

Snipes plays his superhero character with such aching coolness that you can't wait for the next dumb-ass vampire to get in his way.
