Jame McTeigue for Vendetta

Variety reports James McTeigue is in final talks to helm Warner Bros' big screen adaptation of the graphic novel "V for Vendetta." The graphic novel tells a "what if" story where Germany has won WWII and the world is under its totalitarian rule. This fascist state is opposed by a freedom fighter known as "V" with the help of an assistant he has rescued from the secret police. "V for Vendetta" will be McTeigue's feature debut, but he has worked as first AD for the upcoming "Star Wars -- Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" and the first "Matrix" movie.

Yeah, for starters the plot description of the graphic novel is wrong: it isn't a "what-if-Germany-won-WWII" scenario, but a Britain embraces fascism all on its own story.

And if they change it to the one above for the movie, then that'll be missing the point altogether . . . not quite a first for Hollywood . . .

Yeah....I thought as much. For a brief few moments I thought I was going crazy or had completely misunderstood what I was reading when I read "V" way back when. It *WAS* a Fascist UK...not a Nazi-occupied England (different fascism, eh?).

Well, either they're modifying the movie as you said (And I agree with your opnion on that), or the reporter messed up, which is also a possibility. I've seen how some journalists don't bother checking their facts especially if it's about a subject that doesn't interest them, and comic books are one of those "out there" things that a lot of people don't bother getting the stuff straight.
