"Vera Drake," director Mike Leigh's portrayal of a back-alley abortionist in 1950s London, received six awards, including best film and best director, at the British Independent Film Awards Tuesday, Reuters reports. In addition, Imelda Staunton received the best actress award and Phil Davis best actor for their work in "Vera Drake." "Touching the Void," the story of two climbers overcoming adversity in the mountains of Peru, received the award for best documentary, while the Korean film "Oldboy," a story of a man who seeks revenge after being locked in a hotel room, won for best foreign language movie.
