Wolverine Spinoff Has a Screenwriter...and Maybe a Director
Cinescape shares a compelling little scoop regarding "Wolverine" -- the inevitable spinoff tailor-made for everyone's favorite member of the "X-Men". Fox recently hired screenwriter David Benioff ("25th Hour", "Troy") to pen the razor-knuckled manwolf's first solo adventure. But C.A. has even more news than that: "We've heard from a trustworthy source that "Underworld" director Len Wiseman has been approached about directing the Wolverine movie." Mr. Wiseman, along with his willowy wife/leading lady Kate Beckinsale, is currently in Prague shooting "Underworld 2", which is scheduled to wrap in late March. Whether or not Wiseman will sign on for "Wolverine" remains to be seen, but he'd probably be nuts to say no.

on Dec 08 2004 04:17 AM Oh no, not the director of Underworld! I heard it was lousy. And if he's shooting a sequel... well, that can't be good news. Someone tell him to get his claws off our beloved Wolverine! (Reply to this) |
on Dec 08 2004 06:43 AM Wolverine Underworld wasn't a bad movie. It wasn't great, but it was fun to watch. The special effects were excellent although not extremely groundbreaking. Wiseman is a gamble because he has such little experience, but I think he'll do right by Wolverine. I think I'm more worried about Benioff scripting the film, especially since his past works have been somewhat overly dramatic bordering on cheesy. (Reply to this) |

on Dec 08 2004 10:11 AM In reply to this comment (#818424) Len Wiseman??? Are you kidding me? Underworld was a stinker. I'll grant that the esthetic aspect was good (but very obviously ripped off from "The Matrix"), but the rest of the movie was a complete mess: people were laughing in the theater because of how bad it was. Yes, it was his first experience, but the results don't look promising. Hey, why not ask MCG, Michael Bay, or Paul W. S. Anderson to direct the film while we're at it? I'm sure any of them would be more than happy to drive this movie into the ground with their inability to make a movie that makes any sense. I won't go into Benioff's work because I haven't seen any of the films he wrote. (Reply to this) |
