Gellar or Carpenter: Who's More Wonderful?
Either Sarah Michelle Gellar ("The Grudge") and Charisma Carpenter ("What Boys Like") may be going from slaying vampires to flinging a lasso. According to Teenhollywood.com, the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" costars are in competition for the role of Wonder Woman after their former boss, Joss Whedon, took the directorial reins for the screen adaptation of the popular 1970s TV show. One insider told the site that while Gellar is Whedon's first choice, the film's producers may be leaning toward Carpenter because she is less well-known.

on Dec 20 2004 09:22 PM Neither I couldn't even begin to imagine either one as Wonder Woman. Both are horrible choices. Of course, I'm not sure why this is even being made. Didn't Warner Bros. and DC learn their lesson with Catwoman? Wonder Woman is a bomb waiting to happen. (Reply to this) |

on Dec 20 2004 10:04 PM Charisma, of course It is well known throughout the Buffyverse that Joss and Sarah don't REALLY think highly of each other. Ask yourself: how many times has SMG appeared in an interview for the Buffy DVD's, or offered an episode commentary track? Doubtful that Joss would go with the actress that decided to kill his baby in season seven. Charisma, on the other hand, is one of Joss's favorites. She's a great actress (just look at her evolution on Angel) and she's absolutely gorgeous. She'd make the perfect Wonder Woman...if only Joss can fix the costume. (Reply to this) |

on Dec 21 2004 04:05 AM haha this movie will tank. neither actress has the star quality to make wonder woman a success. and neither has the look to fit the superhero character. buffy is too petite for the role, and charisma is just a supporting actress thru and thru. whedon would be better off finding a hot unknown--maybe a younger xena type. but if the choice is down to these two, i tip my hat to gellar, in part cuz i wanna do her. on Dec 21 2004 04:56 AM You must be joking I guess who ever produces this movie WANTS it to fail if they cast either one of this actresses as Wonder Woman. In my opinion either Charlize Theron or Cathrine zeta Jones would make a better Wonder Woman. (Reply to this) |

on Dec 21 2004 06:06 AM In reply to this comment (#818643) preach preacher You are right. this is a stupid stupid move. This movie should not be made, but if it is going to, should they at least try to make it a success? I guess they want someone young so they can make sequels... I dont like Jolie, but I think she would be a good choice too. (Reply to this) |

on Dec 21 2004 06:24 AM In reply to this comment (#818643) Aeon Flux Charlize Theron is tied up with Aeon Flux -- and based on the images I've seen, the costume department didn't bust a sweat making her suit -- but, yeah, Zeta-Jones would be a perfect Wonder Woman, though maybe a bit old for a franchise. Assuming they could put together a great script (doubtful, considering scripts for comic books into films so far) even this idea could work. My guess is they'll send the script through six different writers and each time it will get worse and worse, and then they'll settle on an actress who can't make the character credible either physically or as an actor, and voila: Catwoman II. on Dec 21 2004 06:49 PM what the hell are u guys on. Joss is a terrific writer and director, who was the unknown that did Catwoman. Sarah and Charisma both have the power to pull the male and comic book fans in. you people are pathetic. Bring it on!!!! (Reply to this) |

on Dec 21 2004 06:58 PM In reply to this comment (#818641) Haha Seriously, your post is so full of incorrect information that I don't even know where to start. CC is most certainly NOT thought to be one of Joss' favourites. She was fired from 'Angel' (according to rumours because she was emotionally unstable) and had a very bitter fallout with Joss. She's even talked about being upset with how she was treated at the time. As for SMG, both she and Joss have said they had disagreements over storyline direction, but beyond that they have a great deal of respect for each other. She has commented on why she hasn't done many interviews for the DVDs, and even if she hadn't it certainly doesn't reflect on her relationship with Joss. I don't think either actress will end up with the role. I don't think SMG would want it, and CC is too old (sorry, but it's a fact for what could be the first film in a franchise). (Reply to this) |

on Dec 21 2004 07:09 PM Re: what the hell are you guys on Dude, calm down, no one is saying anything terrible about either woman. They just don't fit the WW role that is all. Elessar Oronro - As I recall, Joss ended the series, not the star of the tv show. She has no power to do that. And why would Joss care about her ending his baby? He abandoned it for Angel and then abandoned Angel for Firefly. As far as he's concerned, BtVS stopped being his number 1 priority. It needed to end. Joss doesn't care whether or not the stars of his show does anything for the DVDs only the fans do. All he needed to worry about was whether or not SMG was still bringing in a good performance. SMG didn't burn any bridges by not doing commentary. Also, CC was fired from Angel. I guess we know how much Joss favored her then huh? I wouldn't want to see either of them as WW. (Reply to this) |
on Dec 21 2004 07:10 PM AND THAT INMFORMTION IS BASED ON WHAT. CHARISMA HAD A BABY, U IDIOT THAT'S WHY SHE WAS NOT REALLY AROUND AT THE END OF SEASON 4 AND THE ENTIRE 5TH SEASON. SARAH SAYS THAT SHE WOULD PLAY A SUPERHERO, ONLY IF IT WAS ORIGINAL. ALSO SARAH COULD NOT DO COMMENTARIES, INTERVIEWS BECAUSE SHE WAS ALREADY WORKING 100-HOUR WEEKS AND DID MOVIES ON HER HIATUS. AND BY THE WAY THIS WHOLE ARTICLE IS BASED ON GOSSIP, AND JOSS HAS NOT BEEN 'LASSOED' BY WARNER BROS. BECAUSE FOX WANTS HIM TO DO X3. LOSERS!!! (Reply to this) |

on Dec 21 2004 08:43 PM In reply to this comment (#818641) Well Known facts Wow, I had no idea that this was a well known fact in the Buffyverse. In fact, I 'd say anyone who had ever spoken directly to either Sarah or Joss, would say the opposite is true. Hmmm, sure that's not wishful thinking? (Reply to this) |

on Dec 21 2004 08:56 PM WW not good. Lets get back to the real topic which was the making of Wonder Woman. Who in their right mind would make a movie out of it. WB is going to the dogs, making any movie with a script because they lost a whole shit load of money on Alexander. The only light in the very long dark tunnel of comic book movies in ther near future is probably Batman Begins. This movie will suck no matter who acts or directs it. Even Spielberg couldn't pull it off no offense. Bad Idea!!! (Reply to this) |

on Dec 22 2004 05:19 AM Wonder Woman Firstly, Catwoman bombed because it was WAY too much of a departure from the original character as she appeared in the Batman series. Most every other comic book superhero movie has succeeded, but they all stayed true to their roots. When producers stray too much from their roots, they only alienate the original fanbase, and then a project has to succeed on its own merits, of which Catwoman had Halle Berry and that's about it. Wonder Woman has a strong fan base, thanks to her success in the comics and to the old Lynda Carter TV series (not a great series, but it wasn't Adam West as Batman, either). The fans would be there for that alone. Plus, there are those of us that would flock to the theaters simply because Joss Whedon is directing and writing (if indeed that comes to pass). As for the question of Charisma or Sarah, I love them both but not as Wonder Woman. If I have to pick one or the other, I'd go with Charisma -- she looks more like Wonder Woman than Sarah does, and I think Sarah's past successes would hinder an audience's ability to accept her in this role. But if I can pick someone who hasn't yet been suggested, my ultimate choice is Robia LaMorte, who played Jenny Calendar for the first two seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Robia is attractive and looks the part (moreso than even Charisma), she's an accomplished actress, she's not as well-known as the others (which would make Warner Bros. happy since they seem to want a lesser-known actress in the tiara and tights), and as a former dancer, she's up to the physicality of the role. on Dec 22 2004 11:54 AM whatever Well thanks for that insightful comment. Much as I disagree anyway, it's safe to say that the studios don't much care whether an actress sucks or not when she can help pull in $110 million (not including international money) for a film that only cost $10 million. Also, if she sucks in "everything" she does, that implies one of two things. Either you've gone and seen everything she's done despite the fact that you think she sucks, in which case an actress who can cause people who think they "suck" to still go and watch everything they do would be very much in demand. Or, if you really think she sucks and so haven't seen everything she's done, your comment is completely uninformed. So either way, your comment hasn't really contributed much. (Reply to this) |

on Dec 22 2004 02:52 PM In reply to this comment (#818643) A Buffy Fan I could picture Catherine Zeta, and while she's doing great for her age, she's way too old to be playing Wonder Woman. As for Charlize theron, I don't see her pulling off a Wonder Woman. Sarah Michelle has proved she can be a thin, blonde, bad ass, but I don't see that in Theron, nor do I want to. Maybe I'm wrong there. I could see Charisma as more of a comic book girl wonder, though, and I'm saying that as a huge Sarah fan. And no script has been all that bad with Joss putting all his efforts into it. But if he treats it as a side project, I have little doubt it will fail. Just my opinions, no one try to kill me please.
