David Duchovny Sheds Light on Second "X-Files" Movie
by RT Staff | January 13, 2005
Discuss Article
Just to assure fans the second "X-Files" movie is still being worked on, David Duchovny reveals to USA Today (via IGN FilmForce) at the 10th Annual Critics' Choice Awards that he expects production to begin some time this year or in early 2006. The story, however, will not involve the alien conspiracy as in the first movie, but will be "a standalone supernatural horror film."

great news! I hope both actors are in it! after Duchovny left, I stopped watching X-files....So I guess it's a good thing that this will be a standalone movie instead of going on with the story...

Its not surprising that they are staying away from the alien conspiracy storyline to do a supernatural tale. Many of the best episodes of the X-Files had nothing to do with the ongoing conspiracy tale. Could this be one of the rare "better than the original" sequals? Let's hope so.

I do believe this is old news (it was stated a while ago that the next movie would probably be a continuation/followup of one of the most popular standalone episodes). Either way, they better make the movie soon. Both Gillian and David are starting to look too old. And Dogget/Reyes/Brad (Cary Elwes) better be in it! Robert Patrick was awesome as Dogget... he deserves the whole series resurrected just for his character.

I dont think age is that important.
I think it would be appropriate for the movie to take place years after the series and movie. Perhaps Mulder and Scully had drifted apart, been canned from the FBI, blah blah blah...[insert backstory to make movie interesting here]

The show was great but I wonder if they've waited too long to do another film. I wonder if the general public would be interested in another one, outside the shows fanbase. It would be nice to see the entire cast return. Robert Patrick filled some big shoes when he came aboard, and he did an excellent job. He should return as well.

I'm excited about the return of the X-Files, and I do hope they bring back Robert Patrick as Dogget. I loved the character and Patrick played it with such intensity. Unfortunately when Duchovny left, large numbers of people ditched the series completely without even giving it a chance.

I wouldn't mind seeing another X-Files film, but if it were to never happen, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. I did try to give the X-Files a chance after Duchovny's departure, but quite honestly, was soon overwhelmed by the shows overwhelming lameness. Robert Patrick did what he could...I liked him in the his role...but he just couldn't keep afloat the sinking ship that was the post-Duchovny X-Files. And yeah, if they do it, I'm all for the stand alone supernatural concept...the best episodes of the X-Files, IMHO, had nothing to do with the conspiracy.

IMNSHO the best episode hands-down was "José Chung," and it had plenty to do with the conspiracy. A standalone movie will have to stand on its own merits, which is fine, if Carter can find a good story to tell. But in fairness to the continuity, if anyone cares any more, it will be only about five years till the invasion when the film is released in 2007.

You Have Got To Be Kidding? No Conspiracy?
How can the next X-files movie have nothing about the consiracy? The whole backbone of the series was about the alien invasion. The series finale gave a date for the invasion.

How can they leave that hanging?
