Alvin Sargent to Spin More "Spider-Man" Tales
by RT Staff | January 13, 2005
Discuss Article | Blog Article | Email To A Friend
The "Spider-Man" series may not end with three installments as previous rumors suggested. Variety reports today that Alvin Sargent, who is credited with writing "Spider-Man 2," has signed a seven-figure deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment to write the third, with an option to write the fourth, "Spider-Man" movie.

No word on what the storyline is for the third installment, but Variety says it is already being worked on by Sargent, along with director Sam Raimi and his brother Ivan Raimi. The first two "Spider-Man" movies are two of Sony's highest-grossing films, having a worldwide gross of $821M and $775M, respectively. "Spider-Man 3" is shooting for a May 2007 release.

both movies were OK. A third one won´t hurt! I hope they introduce Venom as a villain.
but that evil dead remake....with the possibility that Ash won´t be staring...THAT hurts...

I highly doubt that Venom will ever make it in the movies. As tight as it would be to see him in it (and of course a little Venom vs. Carnage spinoff film), I can only imagine how expensive it would be to make Venom look even slightly convincing. I'm betting that Spidey 3 will feature Hobgoblin. Wow. Soooo different from the first villain...Green Goblin (I hope you can pick up on the sarcasm in this). I'm sorry, I love Spiderman and I've been reading the comics since I was a kid, but the movies are crap. And the Evil Dead remake...no Ash? What the deuce? When will the remakes end?

Spin More Tales?
3 is enuf. The Issue is not just making movies, but having a good reason to make one. Hobgoblin is the logical Villian for Spider-Man 3 (IMO). Please Sony make Hobgoblin more flesh and blood not like his mechanical green father.

A third SM movie would rock!!!
Spiderman 1 n 2 were two of the coolest movies ever made...and it has proven it is more than crap critically and finacially...these movies will continue to do well once the stories stay interesting...altho i have to admit...if there's another goblin that would be weak.

I have to agree with you guys on the whole goblin crap. Having Venom in a spidey movie would kick ass!!! But i highly doubt that will happen. I would like to see more than three Spidey movies, as long as the director and all them made the movies interesting. There needs to be a kick-ass villian.....like Venom....in a movie. Also, me being a girl and all, I like all the romance and stuff too, but nobody else does. I havent been reading all Spidey's comics though ( i dont like to read...lol)....so who is Carnage? Is he Spidey with a different suit or what???

things that won't work
hey all. venom, while in a comic book medium totally kicks ass. in a live action movie medium, would destroy the series. both x-men and spiderman are based an verrry loose psuedo-science, and once the general audience accepts that, they can go on and enjoy the movie. but if you start introducing outerspace alien suits, you'll loose the audience. that goes double with anything mystical as well. so, stay away from outerspace, and stay away from doctor stranges territory.
logicly speaking though, we all know they are goin to do either hobgoblin or greengoblin II. the writing is on the wall for that. but i think they should also bring in the Lizard, cuase they already introduced his alter ego, Dr. Conners, one arm and all.

carnage..err...
well, from my memory , if you know who venom is ( alien symbiot), carnage is an offspring off of that, except more homicidal.

Hmmm...
I'm pretty certain that every Spiderman comic book fan pulled out their hair during the first movie when Peter Parker had the webslinging power already in him. (My reaction: "AAAHHH! They killed the Venom movie!") Since he possesses that particular aspect, there is no need for Venom to provide that for him.

venom, lizard.....goblin again?
I guess you're right about the alien stuff, it would ruin the series a little.
but Venom would rock! they would just need a different origin for this villain.
lizard would be my second choice...another goblin with no second villain would suck. we've already seen a goblin movie.
the problem with having more than 1 villain makes them look weak. like in batman 3 or 4 (in this one, they even had 3 villains!) (I'm not counting catwoman as a villain) those batman movies reaaaally sucked!

your definetly on about those batman movies. they sucked baaad. you can get away with two villians in this next spiderman movie, only becuase we have already been introduced to harry osborn, the character developement is already in place. but if they try more than that... well, lets just hope that they dont' push their luck

if u see figures going up to 800 million, they certainly won't hesitate to cought up a million dollars (at most) to make Venom look good. I mean it can't be any more expensive than Gollum which was about 2 million to make him.

The plot?
Mary-Jane's ex fiancee, the astronaut, finds the Venom symbiote in space. Meanwhile, Harry Osborne becomes the Hobgoblin. Spidey and HG fight it out for awhile, until Venom takes over astronaut-guy, whose anger at Peter Parker's "theft" of Mary-Jane from him makes him go after Peter. In a decisive battle, Harry has a change of heart and dies helping Spidey get rid of Venom.
At least, that's my guess.

apperently (according to old news from www.upcomingmovies.com) marvel said they woudn't choose neither venom nor carnage as villains for a third movie.
vin diesel was rumored to be venom...but obviously, it's not going to happen.

The hobgoblin isn't Harry Osbourne he returns as the Green Goblin or Green Goblin 2. The Hobgoblin is a completely different character!

I think that plot would be okay and all...but it is too predictable which means it probably might happen.

Does anyone think Mary Jane and Peter will last or break up...or what???
I think that they might have some trouble with Peter being Spidey and all but in the long run...i think they'll stay together. What do you guys think???

i dont' think at the movies conclusion that they are goin to break them up. especialy if the end the series at three movies. as for during the body of the movie, well, i think we'll have to wait and see on that. i'd like to think that they'll throw something at the characters to really strain thier relationship, seeing as how these spidey movies are more based off of the characters relationships more than the action.
i know they wanted to introduce the black cat character in the second one and decided otherwise ( thank goodness! ) if for some strange and regretable reason they decide to intro her for this movie, see her really straining peter and mary jane's relationship

The Formula
Here's how they should do the next spidey movies: 1. Introduce Gwen Stacy into the third one. 2. Do not REPEAT do NOT put venom as the headlining villian. There was enough bad CGI in the first one, it got better in the second one, but venom is such a complicated character to draw, let alone draw and make move. If you want a headlining villian, how about Electro? Or how about The Vulture? You know, focus on Adrian's messed up life, use one of the plot points from Marvel Knights Spidey (Adrian steals millions to help his daughter's fatal disease), and you got a decent character with the motive you need for a headliner villian. 3. If the first two steps are followed, in the third movie, focus on harry's dilemma a little more. At the end of the third, make and allurement to the fact that in the next film: 4. Harry becomes HobGoblin and kills gwen stacy mid fourth film. and spidey's mental case-ness ensues. End the fourth film on a high note, and were done.

It will be Hobgoblin and the Lizard. Just like in the animated series. It's already been set up. Didn't anyone pay attention to the first two movies?

Well if ur right and they use Lizzard and Hobogoblin, who's will become Lizard? And....i cant seem to find anyone named Dr. Conners? I remember that in the 1st movie Peter mentions to Harry that he got fired by him, but i dont recall ever seeing him.
