Stephen Fry will act as the voice of the Guide in the big screen adaptation to "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," Empire reports. Fry joins Martin Freeman, John Malkovich, and Mos Def for the film, based on Douglas Adams' novel, a cult favorite. As the Guide, Fry will voice direct the protagonist Arthur Dent as he travels the galaxy.

This is probably the most horrible conflict of emotions I've ever had in terms of anticipating a movie. On one hand, I'm thrilled it's being created and I honestly can't wait for it's release, and on another, I'm almost positive that it's gonna disappoint.

this is one of those movies that if they manage to pull it off (which i realy hope they do) it will be excellent but there is a very very big chance it wont live up to the source material

Yeah, they've got some big boots to fill all right. But I have high hopes because
a) The guy who finished off the script is the guy who wrote Chicken Run, which was quite good and had excellent British wit
b) They seem to have got actors who are good for the roles, judging from what I've seen
c) The group making the film (Hammer and Tongs) is a small group that hasn't done a big film before. That means they won't be cynical or exploitative like a lot of the big groups are, and that they'll also be keen to make a good impression on their first attempt
d) Now they've got Stephen Fry, who will be absolutely perfect as the voice of the guide. I have to say when I found out he was in the film I was at a bit of a loss as to what part he was going to play. Now I know what it is, I'm glad!
e) The people who are involved obviously care about what they're doing... which is very important.
