Audrey Tautou, Not Sophie Marceau, Will Crack the "Da Vinci Code"
by RT Staff | January 24, 2005
Discuss Article
Looks like the previous story about Sophie Marceau joining the cast of "Da Vinci Code" was premature. It is Audrey Tautou who will star opposite Tom Hanks in Ron Howard's adaptation of "The Da Vinci Code," according to Variety. Tautou, the star of "A Very Long Engagement" and "Dirty Pretty Things," will take on the role of cryptographer Sophie Neveu. The film, which is being made for Columbia Pictures, is scheduled to start production in June.

How Predictable
Opie always go for the formulaic certainty. Nothing is more Hollywood than this. I knew Tautou was going to be picked ever since I heard they wanted a French actress to play Sophie. Tautou is probably the most famous French actress right now and that's enough for Howards to cast her despite the fact that she does not have anything like Sophie in the book even the hair color! Same thing with the choice of Tom Hanks as Langdon and Jean Leno as Fache. It is all predictable...

I think Tautou's more believable as a cryptographer than Marceau. But yeah, I guess the casting is kinda predictable. It's all just to protect their investment.
