Jeff Nathanson Scripting "Indiana Jones 4"
by RT Staff | February 11, 2005
Discuss Article
Comingsoon.net is reporting that Freezedriedmovies.com has an interview with "War of the Worlds" producer Kathleen Kennedy. In the interview, she reveals that Jeff Nathanson ("The Terminal"Wink is currently writing the script for "Indiana Jones 4" and won't know anymore until she sees a draft in about a month. It is likely that Harrison Ford will reprise role as Indiana Jones. Whether or not Sean Connery will return is up in the air at this moment.

I'm confused. I thought Lucas had already accepted a script for IJ 4.

Prolly not...
Especially since Spielberg is busy wrapping War of the Worlds and Lucas is doing the same with Episode III.

Darabont turned in a script.
But I believe it was rejected. Can't have been that bad could it?

Lucas turned down Darabont
Spielberg was quite pleased with the first draft by Darabont, but Lucas was not and it was rejected. I hope that Spielberg pulls it off, however, I am concerned because of the very busy schedule that Spielberg is subject to. They've confirmed an Indy 4 so many times and planned it for years but have still not begun it. I really want to see this flick and I don't understand why Spielberg couldn't just have postponed War of The Worlds a bit. Harrison Ford and Sean Connery have more time against them than Tom Cruise does.

It's a go. It will be called Indiana Jones and the Search for the Missing Dentures. Or Indiana Jones and the Tapioca of Doom. Or Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Bottle of Malox. I got a million of em....

So is anyone else afraid this is gonna screw up the whole series? I'm not sure if it is or not, but sequels to classics haven't done so well lately living up to their names. Aliens, Terminator, Star Wars (not as bad as AvP or T3, but still . . . I have hopes for ep.3, at least).

Is it true that M. Night Shyamalan was once commissioned to script Indy 4?

I think so. He would have been cool.

Thanks. Yeah, he would've been. I heard his script involved aliens, and an aged hero questioning his basic beliefs. . . sounds like it turned into Signs.

The Indy-trilogy is my favorite trilogy. I dont hope this will be good - I know it will be :).
As for what ninjaandy said, "sequals to classics screw up the whole series", though I understand your concern, it's not always true and dont let it give you bad hopes on Indy 4.
They are taking so long on it to make it work is what I believe.

That's true; they've been putting it out waiting for it to be just right. But what "just right" means to them . . . well, Lucas clearly has a different vision of what his films mean than fans do. Not necessarily worse, just different. We'll see what happens.

I agree that Ford and Connery aren't getting any younger, and they have been trying to get this film made for a long time. I think that Spielberg and Lucas both want a solid good script, and who can blame them.

What?! They're still in Script-writing?
What?! They're still in Script-writing? I'm amazed! I thought the movie was way past that phase! I thought they'd be at pre-production at least, by now... Man, hurry! We know that with today's cinematic tech, you can create INDY completely via Visual-effects, but we wanna see the good ol' Harry Ford, back on the saddle, and yes, we all know the saying: handsome men are like old wine, getting better with time... and all that, and maybe the new script will work 'around' INDY's aging process, but still...!

Anyone remember that game 'Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis'? that would've made a killer movie i always thought. But...i think the lastest movie should definately use the age thing as part of the plot, instead of it just being some other random adventure in Indy's life. In keeping with the themes of the other films, they should just have Indy go searching for the Fountain of Youth, or at least discovering it whilst searching for something else that's mythical and ancient. Isn't his father is supposed to be immortal now? So with Indy now getting old this would make for an interesting story, showing their motivations and what now drives them. It would also make for some funny moments - which is why the 3rd was so good. Lastly, there better not be any annoying young kids in the movie and there has to be Nazi's... No Nazi's no movie!
If this Jeff guy can get it all sorted, then age should not be an issue.

Immortality...
The old Knight gaurding the Holy Grail explained you have to remain in the cave, and can never cross the great seal, the price for immortality. If you cross the great seal you loose the gift of the grail.
