Summary

Citing Ananova and the New York Post, Dark Horizons reports that Kim Basinger is in the running for the lead in a big screen version of Wonder Woman, if the producers decide to make the character older. If the filmmakers go for a younger actress, Jessica Biel of "Blade: Trinity" is the favorite. Back to Article

Why? There are some great stories in comics. Unfortunately they don't always get translated well to screen, but when done right they can be great fun if you have any imagination at all. They are a definite escape from reality. I think Batman Begins will prove that this summer. With that said there are definitely some comic characters that just shouldn't hit the big screen and one is Wonder Woman especially if she's played by Kim Basinger.

If they're looking for an oler wonder woman, they might as well just get Lynda Carter. She's not that old yet, is she? I don't know about Jessica Biel. She's a little too angular. If they go a younger version, might as well go for Jessica Alba.

I think the problem is the way hollywood likes to take one success and then proceed to beat to death said formula. Spiderman went huge, and now comic book movies are a dime a dozen, the new cash-cow. Imo, comic book movies are alright.. but I don't want to see them saturate the market, especially when most tend to be mediocre at best. Give us a little breather, ya know? Variety is good. But from the marketers' perspective you have to attack something while its hot. Which is why I hate them.

Yeah! I can't believe they are creating movies based on a particular genre. Who cares if a majority of the comic book movies are quality movies with excellent acting and solid storylines. Here are some other genres we should eliminate:

Romantic Comedy - Talk about a dime a dozen! There are a dozen of these released every year!

Historical - I'm tired of seeing movies based on historical events released. Don't these producers have any imagination! (Aviator, Titanic, Troy, Alexander, etc.)

Action - You've seen one, you've seen them all. Good guys fight the bad guys and the good guys win. What's the point of even making any more action films.

Drama - Does anyone actually enjoy these? This genre is finally fading away somewhat...and deservedly so.

Sci-Fi - Star Wars clones
Westerns - See Historical
Horror - Do these actually scare anyone any more?
Comedy - How many times can the same jokes be told?

My point being, comic book movies are a genre. If we could do the special effects in the 60s or 70s that we can do now, comic movies would have boomed then rather than now and they would have had their own section at your local video store 10 years ago.

Just because you don't understand or enjoy them doesn't mean they should go away....the box office numbers speak to that. I imagine we will keep seeing comic movies come to the big screen but they will slowly fade in numbers so that only 1 a year on average will be released.

The Xmen and Spiderman series have been great movies. Hulk, Hellboy, Daredevil, Punisher have been mediocre. Catwoman & Elektra downright bad. The box offices for each of these reflect the quality of the films. Producers know they have to put out a good film if they want to make money. Trying to say that comic movies are different in some way than any other genre is silly.

I was saying right from the beginning that a movie for Wonder Woman should've been made before Catwoman and Elektra. Now that talk about a WW movie has caught on, they're going to ruin it by making WW older? Sorry, no offense to Kim Basinger but that's just not right....no no no no no! You're overreacting a little here. But you're right, I'm sorry. I should have said live-action comic book superhero action movies. Because that is a sub-sub-genre, and exactly what has been getting pushed. So really my point still stands. If hollywood starts doing a rash of TV show to movie translations, it gets just as annoying. I'd complain even if they were all good. Because, like I said. I want variety. I'm not putting them down individually, and I hope they do make more comic book movies. Just a little slower.

She lacks in the acting department as well. LOL, maybe Carpenter, Elizabeth, and Biel should be in a film where the three play themselves opening an acting school.

Regardless, my choice, if I had such power, would be Carrie-Anne Moss or Jennifer Connelly.

do you know which older actress would fill the role best? i think Demi Moore. she can play action roles ( gi jane) and sh'e not to slight of build. i figure if they choose one of these thin boned buffy type chicks, it won't quite look right... not that it matters , can't take a wonderwoman movie seriously anyway.

Jennifer Connelly's gotta start reverting back to her former self if she's to be an action star. She looks like she's about to shrivel up into a pile of bones these days. What happened to the former "Most beautiful actress???"

I think Biel is ever so slightly better than Carpenter or Elizabeth in the acting department, has a great body that fits a superhero with physical skills, and has already shown action chops. Carpenter and Elizabeth have so to a much lesser extent on Angel and Jay and Silent Bob respectively.

I cant imagine Basinger as Wonder Woman, older or not... I dont know, She just isin't right for this. She's a good actress and still beautifull an all, but more dramatic, intense, kinda reality based roles suit her better. Why do these Hollywood people feel the URGE to cast 'untypically' whenever casting in Comic-related movies... That's just so annoying! Jessica biel suits better, I think.

if you really take a look at some of the most infamous comics that have been bungled over the years, and the fact that hollywood is making an icky trend out of it, you could see my point. if i had to choose between making an "archie comics" movie and the "fantastic four" i would have less of a time screwing up archie than the ff. seeing that so many people have their own view on how it should be.

daredevil sucked, both x-men (though looking good) sucked, and the fantastic four will suck even harder. i mean they made it once already and it was so "god awful" it never saw the light of day.

i would rather see hollywood make smaller,lesser known comics, than try and tackle big ones and fail miserably at them. that's why hellboy, road to perdition, and constantine rocked so hard. the public didn't know they were comic movies. same with men in black, the first crow, and the first mask film.

true the new batman will be good and there hasn't been a bad spiderman(yet) but i don't want to fathom the idea of another "hulk" or "elektra"

so in review, comic book movies i.m.h.o. are good only when they are done correctly and are not out to make a fast buck. they are not good if they are put out in bulk or too soon

Studios need to release a certain number of films each year, they need to reach their quota... and so, until this changes we are always going to have crappy films that are made because they're considered a safe bet; this means more lame sequels and for the moment... more comic book movies.
Personally, i think Wonder Woman is more suited as a porn film. That, i WOULD go to see!

Pauley Perrette (although I reallllly love Lucy Lawless and would be all for her taking on the role). I think she has the attitude, the looks, the height (5'10"), the acting ability (she can switch between sensitive, annoyed, naive and badass at the drop of a hat) and could take this role and run with it.

there aren't many others out there who I think can do it justice AND who haven't already had an iconic role. Plus she's 36....which I really love. WW should NEVER be barely out of teenage angst. The naivete she has is because of where she was raised....NOT because she's too young to drink :P

Catwoman and Elektra aren't bad because they're women action heroes, they're bad movies period. I hate when people assume that is the reason they failed. And um, have you ever heard of a two volumed film called Kill Bill with Uma Thurman? That was a huge success. Why? Because it was GOOD.

I've heard that response 350 times And what about Kill Bill? Not only did Uma Thurman show good acting ability in the film, she isn't that nice to look at. And it had major success. So any of you shallow superficial dopes can stop with your "lets see how well it does," Obviously it can be done.
