New Line to Mount an All-New "Phantasm" Remake

Fresh out of my inbox comes a press release from New Line Cinema, and this is the news: "New Line Cinema has struck a deal with filmmaker Don Coscarelli to bring a new version of his cult horror film "Phantasm" to the big screen. Coscarelli will produce the remake of the classic film, which will give a 21st century upgrade to the original 1979 film. The new version of "Phantasm" is being designed as a relaunch of a potential horror franchise." So that's all we know for sure: Coscarelli (who also directed "Bubba Ho-Tep") gave the thumbs up, so off we go to remake country...yet again. But hey, New Line did a bang-up job of remaking "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," so let's not get too ornery, horror fans.

it won't take us by surprise like the original did but some of the ideas and themes could be explored better perhaps; i'd like to see the whole Tall Man sending dead bodies to venus thing explored a little more this time around... the original Phantasm was a great movie but it's oh so 70s... an updated, rethought version would be cool and i'd be there....BOY!!! you play a good game boy, now it's time to die.....

If by "bang-up job" on the TCm remake he means "completely ruined a classic", then I'd agree with this article....
