Former Dracula to Play Superman's Boss
by Scott Weinberg | April 06, 2005
Discuss Article
Thanks to the unexpected mid-season success of the Fox TV series "House," actor Hugh Laurie has been forced to give up the plum role of Perry White in Bryan Singer's "Superman Returns." Stepping into the recently vacated role is Mr. Frank Langella, a fine character actor who's been seen in movies like "Cutthroat Island" and "Masters of the Universe," but is probably best known for playing the Count in John Badham's 1979 "Dracula" adaptation.Reuters reports that Mr. Laurie had not yet shot any of his scenes for "Superman Returns."

Yes, but who's going to play the part of the young superman? Because a friend of mine auditioned for the part and he won't say if he got it! The suspense is killing me!

Stephen Bender
I saw a featurette back a couple of weeks ago that featured a kid named Stephen Bender doing wire stunts. The featurette said he had been cast as the young Clark Kent/Superman.

I hate to see Hugh Laurie drop out. I think he would have been a perfect Perry White.

Stephen Bender, eh? Well, it sounds like my friend (Actually he's just an aquaintance) didn't get the part. That's a shame. He's a great actor in the making.

Cool. I hope they make Superman's boss as talkative and humorous as that of Jonah Jameson (Spiderman's boss). That'd be neat.

Yeah, I agree. I thought Jonah Jameson was one of the funniest characters I've ever seen in a movie.

This is sad. The actor who plays House is extremely hilarious. He would have been great.

wonder if there will be a tie in to hbos unscripted, as langela plays the acting teacher in that series, and they have already tied in other actors rolls in movies and tv parts to the series

Langella doesn't play himself on Unscripted though (which I always found weird). So no, they won't be tying this in.
