A Pair of "X-Men" Veterans Sign Up for Part 3
by Scott Weinberg | April 06, 2005
Discuss Article
Variety reports that both Famke Janssen and Hugh Jackman have signed their "X-Men 3" contracts, so you can be sure to see a lot of Wolverine and Jean Grey (in one form or another) in the next super-team adventure. Most of the remaining cast has already signed on, although Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen have yet to make it official. As previously announced, Matthew Vaughn ("Layer Cake"Wink will be directing the third X-fest, which is scheduled for release on May 26 of next year.

This is good. Hugh Jackman was perfect as Wolverine, and I really couldn't think of anyone else playing the part.

I hope with X3 that bringing even more characters into the fold won't disrupt the flow of the movie. I heard a bunch of new characters are going to be introduced into this one, including Gambit. Hope this new director doesn't stuff it up either as X2 was great. Hugh Jackman is the best as Wolverine, can't wait for the spin-off movie either...

I think the casting for the Xmen movies was awesome, with the exception of Halle Berry as Storm. I would've preferred Angela Bassett, who is in her early forties, but fit as hell (and well, Storm is no teenager in the comic either...). I'm so excited about the new movie, new director, etc... they're my favorite franchise around! May 2006 seems so far away (sigh...) ^_^. I hope we see more of Colossus !

Storm is no teenager, but she's no old woman, either. Chris Claremont confirmed that Storm is the same age as Cyclops. In the early 80s, her age was outed as "mid-twenties", so I wouldn't put Storm older than 32. She has, in my opinion, what people refer to as an "old soul". With all that in mind, my vote for Storm would be Nona Gaye. Aside from being a damned solid actress, she *looks* the part.

Doesn't matter, though - no way I'm sitting through X3 if Halle is recast. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!

Why should Halle sign?
Why the heck do they expect Halle Berry to sign X3? She was a mere BACROUND ORNAMENT in X2 -- totally wasted-- given some 3-5 facial expressions (sad, amazed, shocked... that's it) and the stupidest of dialoges. Granted Catwoman was no improvement. But unless, they're willing to upgrade her character's status from that of a backround ornament, Halle really should move on.

beast is one my favs! I was really hopping he apperead in X2, but only did a mere cameo....
I think they should let storm aside...there´s already too much of a story going on with wolverine and jean gray....

I just hope that the producers and Matthew Vaughn don't cave to Halle Berry's demands to make Storm a more central character. I think they can give her more screen time, but still keep her as a support to Wolverine, Jean Grey, and Professor X. I would include Cyclops in the central character group, but it's not real clear whether he'll be in this or not since James Marsden has joined Bryan Singer on Superman Returns. The reports are conflicting on whether Marsden will be back, and they haven't said if they would recast or not. For a fan of the comics, it would be strange to see the XMen without their field commander.

Forget Halley Berry - bring on Angela Bassett!
And maybe bring back Storm's accent FULL TIME!

And while they're at it. If a character has a wig and or dyed hair, maybe they should dye her eyebrows as well. I'm sure the actors might not be into it but it really helpd with the reality of the character.

I thought Halle did a decent job, she catually has a bit of a sub-plot in X2, and with so many characters, I thought the movie did a good job overall with all of them. but if she's unhappy with the amount she has to do in the series, she should walk.

It would be cool to see Storm have more of a role in the next movie (or the one after that), but the narrative on the movies is pretty set with Wolverine being the main focus and X2 setup a major Jean Grey story for X3 so there's only so much that can be expected.

( In reply to renodc) And it would be even stranger to adapt the Dark Phoenix saga (as has been reported), the return of Jean, without Cyclops ! I always thought that Synger was saving Marsden (of whom he's a very good friend, apparently) for this third installment. On the DVD commentary to the last movie he's praising Marsden's acting abilities and complaining that he couldn't use Cyclops so much as he would have intended to, since it's such an ensemble movie and he had to deal with a lot of characters. Cyclops always seemed neglected on screentime, which is odd since he's the commander. But I think Synger even mentioned that he would have a bigger role in the third movie (of course, he was already referring to the Phoenix storyline). I wonder what will happen now with a new director on board, since it was pretty clear in my mind that this movie will be more focused than ever on the love triangle. So deal with it, Halle ! :-P

Halle can complain when she shows that she has a right to. Hello, Halle? The reason why all your scenes are being cut and you've reduced a CENTRAL X-Man (in the comics) to nothing but wallpaper is because YOU ARE A LOUSY STORM! If they make Storm a central character and Halle plays her, she'll embarrass herself even MORE than she has already. Honestly, though? I don't think she'll walk. She doesn't want to hear the deafning cheers that'll go up the minute she walks out of the door.

Angela would've made a magnificent Storm...ten years ago. But her time has PASSED. And I believe she's only 5'4", believe it or not.

Not The Same
I dont think it will be the same without Halle Berry, Patrick Steawrd or Ian McKellen. the whole point of the films is that they are a group, a struggling minority facing a lot of predjusice. It is about forging together, wouldn't it just be controdicting itself if three of the leading people arn't in there? In the comics Storm is my faviourite charecter but in the film she does take a back seat

rattlerbrat is right
Nona Gaye is exactly who I had in mind when I thought of Storm. She was amazing in ALI, she looks the part too. She is a solid actress, Halle's days are over(catwoman). I think Storm should get a larger role in the movies, in the first two she was just a backdrop. Halle has gotten too old for a 20 year old part, though she looks like she could act it. But everyone knows she is old, which makes some to belive that Storm is mid 40's. I will still see the film even if Halle is cast, the first two were amazing, and i hope they dont wear this franchise down.
