Hang on... I read the novel, and the protagonist is supposed to be a boy. What's the point of changing it to a girl and setting it in modern times? I don't have any problems with female protagonists or changing the time settings of stories... but why bother? If they want to retain the flavour of the source material, they shouldn't be making needless changes. I mean, without the original protagonist it won't be My Friend Flicka any more. It'll be... I don't know... Modern Day Cowgirl and Cute Horse or something.
Plus, in the book the horse wasn't wild. She was just hard to tame. So with that gone along with the protagonist and the time setting, there go all the important features of the story. This is just ridiculous!
