Winslet to Become One of the "Little Children"
The Hollywood Reporter informs us that the next project on Kate Winslet's ("Titanic," "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind") plate will be New Line's "Little Children." Based on the novel by Tom Perrotta, the story "is set in a suburban town where perfect parents rear perfect children by day and surf Internet porn and have affairs by night." Todd Field ("In the Bedroom") is in the director's chair, and he will pen the adaptation along with Perrotta.

on Apr 12 2005 07:33 PM I have never read the book. But I heard that her character, Sarah, is plain (some casting suggestions from the book's fans have ranged from Lili Taylor to Hope Davis to Janeane Garafalo). I hope she pulls it off. I would hate to see Kate miscasted. On a positive note, the character seems really meaty (bisexual feminist). And it's cool that Kate's on a roll with all these recent contemporary roles--off with the corsets! And Winslet's disrobing fans should be fairly optimistic about this project. Her character has an illicit affair with a hot neighbor. There's a lot of sex in the book, or so I've heard ;) (Reply to this) |

on Apr 13 2005 12:58 AM Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the project a lot of actress were dismissing because the character is involved in child molestation or something like that? If it is, then Winslet is really either very brave and doesn't mind being identified with such a dark character, or she's a professional welcoming challenging roles. I love her either way. on Apr 14 2005 01:12 AM It'll be interesting to see how they portray this excellent book, but I find the above synopsis a little misleading. I think "Desperate Housewives" has alot to do with turning the suburbia-themed book into a film, though Little Children's nowhere near as camp. Kate Winslet as Sarah is a great choice; I wouldn't have thought of her - not that I would have chosen Janeane or Lili, either. I had always thought of Sarah as a redhead, or a titian-blonde. The character is meant to be 'plain' of frumpy, to an extent, but I think Kate can dress down enough to accommodate. I don't remember Sarah being bisexual, though. I'm curious as to who's playing Todd. And, yeah, it's another character who's involved with child molestation. He gets released back into the community after serving time in jail, so there's much conflict there. The pool scene should be good. (Reply to this) |
