Clive Owen to Headline "Children of Men"
by Scott Weinberg | April 28, 2005
Blog Article | Discuss Article
"Sin City" do-gooder Clive Owen has recently signed up to star in Alfonso Cuaron's "Children of Men." Based on the novel by P.D. James, the story sounds like a pretty cool one: it "takes place in the near future, where mankind has lost the ability to procreate, and the world is rocked by the news that the youngest person on Earth -- who is 18 years old -- has died. As chaos erupts, a former radical (Owen) is engaged to be the protector of the most sought-after person on the planet -- the first pregnant woman in almost 20 years."

No less than six screenwriters will have contributed to the project by the time it hits the screens: Paul Chart ("White Lies") wrote the initial adaptation, after which Mark Fergus and Hawk Otsby ("Consequence") did a rewrite. Cuaron ("Y Tu Mama Tambien") will also put pen to paper with the assistance of scribes Timothy Sexton ("Live from Baghdad") and David Arata ("Spy Game").
