Clive Barker & John Woo Make a "Demonik" Pair
by Scott Weinberg | May 10, 2005
Discuss Article
The Hollywood Reporter brings news of an odd-yet-interesting filmmaking duo: Clive Barker ("Hellraiser") and John Woo ("Face/Off") will join forces to deliver a movie / video game project entitled "Demonik."

Regarding the video game version, Mr. Barker had this to say: "In this game, you'll not only be witness to the genesis of a new villain, but you can play him ... I find that to be an extremely interesting way to create a new and compelling franchise." No word yet on when the movie well get underway, but the producers are shooting for the "Demonik" game to hit shelves some time next year.

Usually when filmmakers plan video games it ends up stinking. Video Games are obviously going to be the story-telling vehicle of the future, but no project has really created a truly great game. That i can play the "villain" in this game isn't anything too new in the "Grand Theft Auto" generation of games. I hope the game lives up to Barker's enthusiasm despite my cynicism.

The "Silent Hill" series is one that's impressed me as taking movie ideas and extending them to the video game realm without drawing from an exact movie. Wait for it to be ruined next year when the 2 hrs movie is released.

Playing as a villain is nothing new, though this could be one of the first(excluding GTA) where you can play only as the villain.

Wasn't Demonik, the name of the game, that Alex was secretly making in "grandma's boy"?
