Kelsey Grammer Gets Blue to Become the "X-Men 3" Beast

Variety reports some rather colorful comic book movie news when they announce that TV's Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) will be playing the fan-favorite Beast in Matthew Vaughn's "X-Men 3." Those who doubt the connection between TV's longtime psychiatrist and a 400-pound hulking blue brute need only remember that Beast (a.k.a. Dr. Hank McCoy) is the resident super-genius within the X-Men lair. (Plus he'll be wearing a costume and sprinkled with CGI, most likely.)

Maggie Grace (of TV's "Lost") is also in negotiations to play X-babe Kitty Pryde, and most everyone already knows that Vinnie Jones ("Snatch") has been signed to play the villainous Juggernaut Jones. Looks like "X-Men 3" is shaping up to be a very interesting affair!

as grammer is in his late 40s, i think this is being miscast, unless the beast is all cgi and all he is doing is the voice, ala abe sapean in hellboy

Abe Sapean was CGI in Hellboy only in the action scenes under water, when he almost gets killed by the monsters, the rest of the footage it's a real actor playing him, I believe. I'd give Grammer a chance to be Beast; beneath all the makeup nobody will notice he's in his late 40's. Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler) could have been also in his late 40's and nobody would have noticed. Of course for all the action scenes when he has to move around Beast-wise, I suppose CGI will take over or Grammer will break each and every bone in the process.

I admit Kelsey Grammer sounds like a weird choice for Beast but I think the voice work would be great and I'm sure the makeup/costume/CGI effects will take care of the rest. As mentioned before - Alan Cumming originally sounded like an odd pick for Nightcrawler, but he turned out great! I think Grammer will pull it off.

i like the idear.....even if kesley is used (versus a full blown cgi) he is going to be covered from head to toe in make-up and fur....age isnt going to be an issue at all...

they are aging her pretty fast

and you guys are right, cummings was great as night crawler, and with all the makeup, age is not a factor

Grammer would be perfect for the role of the well spoken Super-Genius Hank McCoy aka Beast. I agree with Ophiuchus in that I've always seen Beast as older or at least a more mature character than the other X-Men. I like this development a lot.

yeah, he will. hank mccoy was a wisecracking genius, something right there in kelsey grammer's alley. then there's the voice.

i haven't been reading the x-men since after fatal attractions. i don't know if he changed into some brooding character or what. he could even be dead.

I meant in the comics, but I see what you're referring to now. BTW, this WILL be the third actress to play Kitty in as many movies (can anyone say "Audrey Griswold"?). Yeah, the second one, Katie Stuart, was just a kid, but the first one, Sumela Kay, was pretty cute. Maggie Grace is just horribly inappropriate.

X-Men 3 is shaping up to be far better then the originals. Mathew Vaugn is actually a really good director, I just saw Layercake and that the directing kicked ass. The movie should have far more cinematic value then the first two, which where just like big "opening box office weekend" machines. I think Mr. Vaughn can get way more out of his actors, so the acting won't be as week.

I really like Kelsey Grammer as the beast, probaly the best casting choice available, since it is not like the beast morphs, so all Kelsey will have to do is voice the character, and his voice is a perfect fit.
