Clive Barker Plans to Climb Aboard His Old "Meat Train"
Variety brings news that should thrill and delight all you Clive Barker fans out there. The celebrated author, artist, and filmmaker has decided to team up with producer Jorge Saralegui to create a shingle called Midnight Picture Show, and get this: They're going to make movies based upon Barker's old "Books of Blood" series! First flick on deck will be an adaptation of the seriously grisly tale "The Midnight Meat Train," which will be directed by Patrick Tatopoulous.
To those who haven't read this nasty little nugget, it's about a "photographer's effort to track down "the subway butcher," a search that leads to an unholy secret." The production gets underway later this year, with Lions Gate prepared to bankroll and distribute. After that will come "Pig Blood Blues" and "New York Resurrection."
And the final bit of news is probably the most refreshing. Check out what Mr. Barker has to say about the style and tone of his upcoming horror flicks: "We will not be reheating old films, freshening up old ideas ... Even forgetting the sequels we hope to make, I've got enough here for 20 movies of varying budget scales ... Jorge and I want to wind up with a library of pictures that will reflect my sensibilities, which are decidedly R rated ... In fact, the moment I make a PG-13 horror movie, you can take me out and shoot me. Our desire is to leave you feeling that we're a little crazy." Let's hear it for Clive Barker!

on May 26 2005 12:45 PM What?? Horror movies that aren't remakes?? All R-rated?? ACTUALLY SCARY??!! How does this guy plan to make any money? What a relief, a talented horror storyteller gets infused back into the crumbling genre. I have high hopes that his projects will make Texas Chainsaw and Amityville it's prison-house bitches.
