Halo's Master Chief Invades Hollywood Studios
by Scott Weinberg | June 07, 2005
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Summary

Variety reports on a rather unique series of script deliveries that occured out in Tinseltown yesterday. Microsoft had several delivery guys dressed up in full "battle chief" armor to deliver their proposed screenplay for a "Halo" movie. The screenplay, written by Alex Garland ("28 Days Later"), is apparently up to the highest bidder -- although New Line, DreamWorks, and Sony have already passed on the project. Back to Article

I doubt they'd Britainize it. It's an American franchise, written for American audiences, and made in America. They'd have no need to Britainize it.

And if they did they'd probably only use great British actors like Michael Cane...

This could be a good movie... in terms of characters they should make the Master Chief believable by not letting him do things possible only to Bond or Jedi. Focus on the military / strategy aspect more than the action hero aspect. It should be a military film more than anything else... with a few parallel plots: The Master Chief / Spartan unit using the big guns, A Marine Unit cleverly using squad based tactics to kick butt, ONI Spooks negligently watching everthing unfold, and possibly some Civilians being involved (I Love Bees story line?). Sort of a blend between Aliens and Black Hawk Down. Oh, and no CGI or talking Aliens.

Well, you'd have to have CGI. They'd have to have some space battles, and Covenant would be crap as models. And they'd have to speak as well (if there was a Covenant POV).

If they did the storyline from The Flood first, they would have the Spartan (MC) doing his thing, the marine units doing their thing (protecting the HQ), the flood POV (infected Jensen), and the Covenant POV (the ELite commander trying to kill MC).

Then they could do The Fall of Reach. They'd have wonderful training sequences, big space battles, ONI spookery, and the like.

Then, if they wanted, they could probably merge First Strike and Halo 2 together for all of those combined.

Well ladies, looks like it got picked up. Apparently Universald and Fox are splitting the tab and buying the script.

Go get 'em Chief!

I think that a really cool idea for the movie is if they use the movie to bridge Halo 2 and Halo 3. and they should cast Samuel L. Jackson as Johsnon.
