'24': The Movie?

Could the Jack Bauer Power Hour be coming to your local theatre? It seems that Fox has at least some preliminary ideas to try and turn its popular TV series "24" into a feature film. While a script hasn't yet been developed, producer/director Jon Cassar said the film is a possibility and at least two years away from any real production. The problem right now, according to Cassar, is trying to figure out how to adapt the format of "24," where 24 hours play out in real time over the course of a season.

One of the ideas currently being tossed around would have half the film transpire like a normal movie with the real-time gimmick kicking in with an hour left in the movie. As for the plot, they're waiting to see exactly what transpires over the next two seasons before commiting to anything.

Perhaps if they know in advance they can have the end of one season lead into the film with a bitchin' cliffhanger. The last season ended with Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) presumed dead and left to wander the Earth on the lam from pretty much everyone (especially the Chinese government -- who want him in prison for the death of a consulate).

Bad move. Bad move.
Let us have Season 5 and 6 in peace; the show is intense, well acted anf a lot of fun and a movie format would ruin what we 24 fans love.

What would a movie add that can't be done in the show?
A bigger budget might get you more big-name actors, more exotic locales and bigger 'splosions, but even a three-hour movie is going to seem paltry compared to a whole season's worth of material.
24 takes advantage of the episodic nature of television, and gimmick or not, the realtime thing is the glue that binds everything together (try to imagine the show without it).
Instead, take that money and make a 24 video game, where you'll still make heaps of cash and give people a unique interactive experience that can't be replicated in a theater.

Wouldn't a 2 hour movie completely destroy the whole concept of 24 and what makes it so good?

What?
Uh, no.

They are playing too much with the time anyway. Somehow no matter where they are in Los Angeles, they are always 10-15 minutes away from CTU. Yeah, ok.

It should be called, 24 (hour cell phone battery).

I never understood the lure of gameboy and the other portable game systems. The screen is 3 inches, you can't see anything, no matter how good the graphics are. Just small blurry figures running and shooting. Give me a 32 inch screen, with surround sound so I can see and hear the blood when I blow people away. PSP has DVD's for it. Yeah I want to watch a DVD on a 3 inch screen. Waste o' money. Tetris Good though.

Here's an idea!
The only way this would work is if they made a movie that actually lasted 24 hours. This would give you more than the TV show because even the DVDs only last about 16 hours. They can format it into digital projection so that there's no need to rethread platters. And every three hours, you can have Jack say something like, "Hang on! I have to go to the bathroom and get something to eat!" Then show him going to the bathroom and standing in line at Burger King for about 10 minutes. At this point, that's when the audience knows they can go to the bathroom and buy snacks.
