Chow Down for "Pirates" Part 3
Admired actor / action star Chow Yun Fat ("Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon") has signed on for villain duty in Disney's as-yet-untitled second sequel to "Pirates of the Caribbean." He'll play Captain Sao Feng, although details on this character are, of course, being kept under wraps.
Director Gore Verbinski is hard at work doing back-to-back duty on the pair of "Pirates" sequels, and the shooting schedule for Part 2 is nearly at an end.
Variety also reports that "Pirates 2" is no longer using the subtitle of "Dead Man's Chest."
"Pirates 2" is presently scheduled for release in July of 2006, with Part 3 docking in port during the summer of '07.

Ophiuchus writes: on Jul 07 2005 01:55 AM That's good news. For one thing Chow Yun Fat is a worthy actor, and for another I wasn't terribly impressed with the 'dead man's chest' subtitle. Sounds like a horror movie. (Reply to this) |

Twirlnhurl writes: on Jul 07 2005 08:04 AM Because ocean movies are expensive, and shooting both at the same time is like getting 2 movies for the price of 1.5, with all the main talent. Sounds good to me. (Reply to this) |

Absinthe76 writes: on Jul 07 2005 08:07 AM Well, the film formerly known as "dead man's chest" would be the FIRST sequel, and the next one would be the SECOND sequel. I suspect that due to the huge worldwide profit from the first pirates, and the production savings of filming back-to-back, they have a pretty safe bet to milk a decent profit from 2 more Pirates released. I just hope they have a realistic portrayal of the role of the " Peg Boy" in this one. (Reply to this) |

lovelykeira writes: on Jul 07 2005 02:10 PM They kinda announced Fat being added a while ago but whatever, he will be a nice addition. As for removing the subtitle Dead Man's Chest, I kinda prefer they have a subtitle than just calling it number 2. (Reply to this) |

digitalsoul68 writes: on Jul 07 2005 06:43 PM The Killer is Back? Yun Fat has been underutilized in Hollywood for so long, cast in some recently god-awful movies (Bulletproof Monk???), and has lost some of the edge he had in the John Woo flims. PotC 3 will hopefully sterilize the bad taste of those flicks and put this great actor back on the boards! Looking forward to it. (Reply to this) |

Mikeal2643 writes: on Jul 10 2005 12:56 PM Why!? Wow, was I the only one bored when I saw Pirates the first time. The movie claimed to be an action film, yet with a bloated budget that must of way passed 100 mil, there must of been only 5 min of real action in what felt like a pointless three hour epic. Im sure Rodriguez could come out with 5 Sin City sequels and 5 more El Mariachi sequels for what there giving Verbinski to make his trilogy. Or better yet, petition Fox Studios to fund another Master and Commander movie, a movie that far surpassed Pirates in both action and story. (Reply to this) |
