Carnahan Starts "Smokin'" for Universal

"Narc" director Joe Carnahan has been tapped by Universal to helm "Smokin' Aces," from his own screenplay. The action thriller is set to star Ryan Reynolds, Jeremy Piven, Grammy-winner Alicia Keys, and (in a small-ish role) Ben Affleck.

"Reynolds will play an FBI agent supervising a manhunt for a standup comedian (Piven) who has decided to squeal on the mob. Before he heads off into protective custody, the comic goes for one last hurrah in the casinos at Tahoe, drawing a crowd of assassins."

Production on "Smokin' Aces" is set to begin this October.

Piven is the man. Affleck (despite what most people say) still pretty much rocks. I'm not so sure about Alicia Keys, but whatever. This should be good. At least it's not a sequel, and I'm pretty sure it's not a re-make.

I'm with ya all the way halose7en on Piven and Affleck. And I think they should get rid of Keys, there's enough talented actors out there looking for work without bringing in another singer.
