Carrey and Stiller to Team Up as "Used Guys"
Jim Carrey and Ben Stiller will team up to play "Used Guys" for director Jay Roach, says Variety. It's a high-concept comedy about two obsolete pleasure clones who have a tough time making it in the futuristic world.
"Scripted by David Guion and Michael Handelman from an original script by Mickey Birnbaum, the futuristic "Used Guys" is set in a world where women run the Earth. Men became extinct because they ingested an enhancement drink that proved fatal.
Carrey and Stiller will play clones rendered obsolete by superior models whose enhancements include better listening and lovemaking skills. The scorned clones make a run for it, bent on regaining their dignity by searching for a male nirvana known as Mantopia.
"Used Guys" would mark the first onscreen star pairing of Carrey and Stiller, though the latter directed Carrey in "The Cable Guy." It will also be Carrey's first film with Roach."
Jay Roach is best known for directing all three "Austin Powers" movies, as well as "Mystery, Alaska," "Meet the Parents," and "Meet the Fockers."
Production on the Fox flick will begin next spring.

on Sep 01 2005 07:28 AM Ben Stiller and Jim Carrey in the same movie? Awesome. And the plot sounds pretty funny, too. (Reply to this) |

on Sep 01 2005 07:59 AM The plot sounds rather good, original. I think this will be a hilarious pairing and I am ready to see the comedy that formulates between Stiller and Carrey. Also, I'm guessing with a lot of accuracy here when I say a duo such as Stiller and Carrie in a comedy calls for a sequel. I mean, it may not happen. But if this film turns out good, Carrey AND Stiller fans will be pleading on their knees for a sequel. I'm personally a Carrey fan, not so much Stiller. Ben is funny in some movies, and can be funny when he wants to be. I'm hoping this will bring out his humorous side. (Reply to this) |

on Sep 01 2005 01:20 PM Just the plot cracks me up. So this could definitely be good. Roach is a good director and Stiller can be funny at times. Plus Jim Carrey is my all time favorite funny man. And yes please make it R rated. (Reply to this) |

on Sep 02 2005 06:53 AM Stiller was in The Cable Guy. Not onscreen at any time while Carrey was on, but he made a little cameo. (Reply to this) |

on Sep 02 2005 09:39 AM sounds very funny, and these two guys are perfectly cast for this kind of story. Especially stiller, this is right up his alley. And carrey can do anything he puts his mind to. I am already getting mental pictures of this movie. Unless the screenplay is just horrible, and the director allows no improvisation, than this will be funny! And it's about time someone is makiing an original comedy again, it seems like people forgot how funny unconventional comedies can be. Remember Ghostbusters??? One of the most entertaining films of all time! Hopefully this will come close to that. (Reply to this) |

on Sep 02 2005 11:46 AM In reply to this comment (#825709) make it R-rated... and this movie will never recoup the budget that's bound to be huge enough with these two stars alone, but a far-flung-future set says that it'll be a pretty costly pony indeed. This movie with an R is box office poisin. (Reply to this) |

on Sep 03 2005 03:33 PM In reply to this comment (#825718) R rating box office poison for comedies? I'm not so sure about that--look at Wedding Crashers...people will go if a movie is good enough; rating seems irrelevant here. (Reply to this) |

on Sep 03 2005 03:55 PM Sounds interesting This movie will have to be PG-13 though, because a lot of Parents take their little kids to the Jim Carrey movies, and it would be huge. With R? Not so much. Wedding Crashers is a diffrent type of movie and fanbase, that Jim Carrey dosen't possess. (Reply to this) |
