Jodie's "Plan" -- Be #1 at the Weekend Box Office
Summary
Disney's airplane thriller "Flightplan" had little problem snagging the #1 spot at the weekend box office, but for the first time ever, two September releases managed to cross the $20 million mark in same frame. "Flightplan" hauled in an estimated $24.6 million, while Tim Burton's "The Corpse Bride" netted $20.1 million. Back to Article

I thought it was one of the more entertaining movies to come around in a while, better than Red Eye as far as airplane action goes. This one manages to stay on the plane the entire movie and the action for the most part keeps comin. (Reply to this) |

glenbo writes: on Sep 26 2005 02:00 PM This disappointment of a combination of both Panic Room and The Forgotten (both Jodie Foster) will be forgotten soon. Corpse Bride is just too creative, funny, and artsy for stupid moviegoers who would rather see some moronic and stale thriller rather than a great and original movie. (Reply to this) |

She was one of the reasons I liked Panic Room so much, too (although that movie had a lot of other great attributes). (Reply to this) |

foolofatook writes: on Sep 26 2005 04:53 PM Expect some turbulance from Flightplan next weekend. Mostly mixed word-of-mouth will probably lead to a drop of near or over 50%. Corpse Bride, however, will be sticking around for some time. Next weekend's drop will be small, especially after a strong Saturday-Sunday hold. Less than 35% is likely, less than 30% is very possible. Great word-of-mouth coming from this one that's really going to carry the film. (Reply to this) |

The Senhman writes: on Sep 27 2005 03:26 PM In reply to this comment (#826177) Have you seen it yet? It's one of those films that's pretty contrived, but is, nonetheless, a crowd-pleaser. When I saw it at the Toronto Film Festival, people were cheering pretty loudly at the end. That's why I was kinda expecting it to do pretty well. Corpse Bride is pretty good, but with Wallace & Gromit and opening in a couple weeks, it's staying power will be tested. (Reply to this) |
