Warners Plans "Remake That Fell to Earth"
by Scott Weinberg | October 28, 2005
Discuss Article
Warner Independent Pictures is planning to mount a remake of Nicolas Roeg's 1977 cult classic "The Man Who Fell to Earth," itself an adaptation of the Walter Tevis novel from 1963. Screenwriter Oren Moverman has earned the remake writing gig.

Variety says the "story is about an alien who comes to Earth disguised as a businessman to procure water for his parched planet. Along the way, he becomes the head of a powerful international conglomerate and discovers just how greedy mankind is, falling into a metaphysical crisis."

The original version of Tevis' novel starred David Bowie. No word yet on who'll be starring in (or directing) the revisit.

STOP ALL REMAKES!!
Enough is enough. Maybe if we all start a serious letter-writing campaign, Hollywood will get off its collective lazy ass and start making original movies again.

Hollywood's new motto should be: "If it ain't broke, let's try and fix it anyway."

geez I don't know why you people are complaining about it. This is a movie most people havent even heard of so why not remake it? If they remade Jaws then I would be upset, but not about a movie that is unknown.

I guess remakes don't bother me either, as long at they arent completely butchered...that's usually rare though...

Damnit! The Man Who Fell to Earth is one of my very favorite movies, I was hoping it was obscure enough that the remake machines wouldnt notice it.
They are going to really mess this one up.
Dosnt anyone out there in Hollywood have an original idea?? Stop messing around with other peoples stuff and make your own movies!

well, first of all, this is not an unknown movie by any means. it has a huge cult following and is also well know by a lot of people that were young in the 80s because it got a lot of new interest then. second of all, this movie is absolutley perfect, and I guarentee whoever they pick to play Thomas Jerome Newton (main character) will be awful for the role, most likely too masculine. David Bowie's looks and performance were absolutely perfect, and you can count on them messing that up in a remake. I'm really hoping they just drop this idea, the only way i would support a remake is if it was made correctly by a fan of the orignal.
