Ferrell, Heder, Poehler & Arnett Sharpen Their "Blades"
The Hollywood Reporter brings news of a potential partnership between four of Hollywood's busiest chuckle-merchants. Seems that Will Ferrell and Jon Heder are about to sign in the skating comedy "Blades of Glory," in which they would star with Amy Poehler and Will Arnett.
"Red Hour Films' Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld are producing the DreamWorks comedy with John Jacobs of First Entertainment. Tackling the competitive world of ice skating will be the commercial directing duo Josh Gordon and Will Speck.
"Blades" revolves around a pair of world-class men's figure skaters who are banned from the sport after their disgraceful brawl during the Winter Games in Salt Lake City. After three years of toiling in obscurity, they attempt to put aside their feud and exploit a loophole in the terms of their suspension, partnering to compete in the only category open to them -- pairs figure skating."

dracus writes: on Nov 17 2005 08:16 AM Okay, after Will Ferrell and Jon Heder skake around the ice for the first time in funny costumes and holding each other using the same old tired jokes and sight gags, what happens? They'll probably start looking for a Nickelodeon sitcom with a laugh track to star in. (Reply to this) |

nogard64 writes: on Nov 17 2005 09:12 AM you nay sayers are so predictable! haha yeah I remember the same thing being said about, Elf, "oh after the first time we see a grown man wearing an elf costume, we'll laugh but then what?" and on Wedding Crashers "yeah first couple weddings will be funny, and then what will we laugh at?" Wow you nay sayers are so negative and you guys will never learn and never change your minds huh? We are in a golden age of comedic films, this new Rat Pack of actors are the real deal, Stiller, Farrell, Vaugh, Carrell, Wilson brothers, and ETC. Everything they touch turns into gold, so show a little respect, ye of lil faith! (Reply to this) |

dubyaboosh writes: on Nov 17 2005 09:59 AM I cannot believe FOX had the audacity to cancel Arrested Development after how they terribly advertised it. The cast of AD are all very talented actors and I'm glad Arnett is landing one film role after another. I just can't see Arnett being anyone other than G.O.B. though .... (Reply to this) |

dracus writes: on Nov 17 2005 11:32 AM In reply to this comment (#827857) It's like a sitcom, how many times can you laugh at the same thing? Last year he was in an Elf costume, next year in a figuring skating costume yada, yada yada. At this rate, how long will it take before someone dresses him up as a figure skating elf that has a secret fetish of crashing weddings? No, wait, that may actually be funny LOL The Golden age of comedic films? The Rat Pack? More likely the dark age of comedic repetition with The Mouse Pack. The most recent Golden Age and Rat Pack featured Adam Sandler, The Wayan Brothers, Jim Carrey, Robin Williams and Mike Myers but at least they tried to be original, knew when to quit and are not afraid to boldly try new things. Will Ferrell reminds me of Sylvester Stallone; he hit on a good thing and is building a career beating this good thing to death. I think Ferrell is better than that, he just needs to get out more. Rock_The_Luau writes: on Nov 17 2005 03:28 PM In reply to this comment (#827859) Wake up, man. Will Ferrell has done more than Elf. And Elf isn't the only reason he's rising in the ranks. He's just plain funny. Many people have known that for years now. And by the way, Adam Sandler just does the same movie over and over again, and the Wayans brothers just aren't funny, period. Putting them in some sort of comedy "Rat Pack", especially next to the likes of Robin Williams, is shameful. (Reply to this) |

dracus writes: on Nov 17 2005 07:11 PM Punch Drunk Love is not Billy Madison nor is his upcoming Tarantino movie "Inglorious Bastards" or the just announced 9/11 movie "Reign O'er Me' with Sandler as lead with Don Cheadle in support. Adam Sandler like Robin Williams is destined to win an oscar or two and will be making top notch original movies long after Will Ferrell is forgotten. Let's face it, Will Ferrell is this generation's Chevy Chase ; a one dimensional comedian who always plays it safe and when you see his name on a movie marquee you already know what to expect. I'm not saying Will Ferrell isn't funny. He's good at what he does, but like a worn out sitcom, don't expect any surprises. (Reply to this) |

Infernal writes: on Nov 17 2005 07:15 PM Everyone. You may or may not remember, but I posted a comment on the article on this site about Arnett's increasing number of roles about two weeks ago. It was very negative. I was actually thinking of a completely different actor in a completely different show(Stacked) I was thinking, for some strange reason, that the owner of the library in Stacked was Arnett. I saw two commercials next to each other (Stacked and Development) in the past. It just stuck in my mind. They don't even remind me of each other. Anyway, terribly sorry. Moving on.. This film? GRAND. I'm glad to see they're bringing these nutcases together. :-D This will be an absolutely hilarious film if—yes, there IS an IF—the script gives them crude, silent, and some moronic-yet-funny humor. This could turn out like Elf and Kicking and Screaming and might not give Ferrell chance to shine. But I'm hoping it'll be my first option. Anyway, yes. This film can be good. Yet at the same time—it may not be. (Reply to this) |

nogard64 writes: on Nov 17 2005 07:37 PM wow Dracus did you see The Longest Yard??? talk about snooze fest! I've never seen such a bad remake! The only thing that was worth watching in it was C Rock and they killed him are you kidding me?? Yeah Sandler's done, like week old over burnt toast, hes got nothing on Ferrell or Pherrell for that matter(yeah I rather see a music producer than him). What, you think Tarantino will pull a Travolta on Sandler and revive his career? Highly doubt that after the bull poop, Kill Bill turned out to be. (Reply to this) |

Cindy_Lou_Who writes: on Nov 18 2005 10:44 AM I agree with dracus with his statements that Will Ferrell is this generation's Chevy Chase and that he's not all that funny. As for what nogard64 said about Quentin Tarantino not reviving Adam Sandler's career, he's right and wrong about that. First of all he doesn't have to since Adam is still very popular and active in films and secondly, I'm sure that I read a Rotten Tomatoes article last spring that quoted Michael Madsen as saying Sandler along wih Tim Roth and Eddie Murphy were going to be in Quentin Tarantinio's 'Inglorious Bastards. Did anyone else read this or am I mistaken? (Reply to this) |

new12play writes: on Nov 19 2005 04:03 PM Of course Will Ferrell has been overexposed and has taken some movie projects primarily for the bank, but come on, this guy is a genius. How many memorable television and movie moments does this guy have?...SNL-more cowbell!!!, Night at the Roxbury, Anchorman o my Anchorman, his one-liners that will crop up in every movie that even if it is something as idiotic as Bewitched will still make you laugh---I have duck!. Plus he has made the transition to doing other pictures as well....Melinda and Melinda and next year's Winter Passing. Plus these new wave of comedies have been a breath of fresh air considering what we've been forced to laugh at the past couple of years---40-year old virgin, wedding crashers, anchorman, dodgeball...you have to applaud random but witty humor.
