"Van Wilder 2" -- Hold the Van Wilder
by Scott Weinberg | December 01, 2005
Blog Article | Discuss Article
You've heard it mentioned here and there on message boards and what-not, but we can officially confirm that next year's most anticipated sequel is on its way. Get ready for "Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj," only without the unnecessary baggage of an actual Van Wilder.

From The Hollywood Reporter: "Bauer Martinez Distribution has acquired North American distribution rights to "Van Wilder II: The Rise of Taj." The film, being produced by Tapestry Films, is shooting in Romania. "Wilder II" is the sequel to 2002's "National Lampoon's Van Wilder," which made $21 million at the boxoffice but went on to become a cult hit on DVD. The new film stars Kal Penn, who reprises his role as Taj. In the sequel, Taj heads to England's Oxford University to further his studies while also showing the uptight student body how to have a good time."

"Van Wilder 2" is directed by Mort Nathan, the man who tried to get 8 of your dollars for "Boat Trip," and penned by first-timer David Gallagher. Starring alongside Mr. Penn (who, I must admit, was pretty damn funny in "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle") will be Holly Davidson, Dan Percival, and Stevem Rathman. Notable by his absence (if only because he's the title character) is Ryan Reynolds.

Wow, an unneccesary sequel to a terrible movie. I think that just about sums up 2006's current lineup of movies.

why do I feel like I'm the only person who hates Van Wilder, let alone Ryan Reynolds?

I dont think it was THAT bad. I meant the story was kind of stupid, but Kal Penn made Taj a hilarious character (And harold and kumar is one of my favorite movies of all time thanks to him). It will be interesting to see how this one plays out.

Well I agree with you crazyghost on hating Van Wilder but I don't have any reason for hating Reynolds. This is the problem with Hollywood, they think they can make a sequel out of everything. It's not gonna make any money and is going to be a waste of movie theatre space

Van Wilder was not a bad movie. This, however, will be.

Ryan Reynolds is the man. The original Van Wilder had a *very* week script but he (and Kal Penn) made it work, even with pepperonipple Tara Reid in the way.

Crazy, I agree with you completely about Van Wilder.

But that does not describe the entire 2006 lineup. What about Pirates of the Carribean 2, X-men 3, Mission Impossible 3? I mean really, you're having a go at some movies that will take in millions and millions and will ACTUALLY be good.

As for Ryan Reynolds.. I have no reason to dislike him, but I have no reason to like him. I guess what I'm saying is he's so-so.

BOAT TRIP DIRECTOR STILL WORKING???
Doesn't anyone in Tinseltown get FIRED anymore?? Hollywood's newest slogan: "You'll never work in this town again... until the sequel".
