Trailer Bulletin: The Hills Have Eyes & When a Stranger Calls
by Scott Weinberg | December 23, 2005
Discuss Article
There's been a bona-fide explosion of new movie trailers over the past week or two ... but this is the only one I've watched more than once, because I'm a desperately sick horror junkie. Hardcore gorehounds are obviously familiar with Wes Craven's classic "The Hills Have Eyes," and now comes the very first trailer for the remake by "High Tension" director Alexandre Aja. And it's pretty darn cool.

"The story of a family road trip that goes terrifyingly awry when the travelers become stranded in a government atomic zone. Miles from nowhere, the Carters soon realize the seemingly uninhabited wasteland is actually the breeding ground of a blood-thirsty mutant family... and they are the prey."

Scheduled for release (with an R rating, thank the horror gods) on March 10th, the new-fangled "Hills Have Eyes" stars Aaron Stanford, Ted Levine, Kathleen Quinlan, Vinessa Shaw, Emilie de Ravin, and a bunch of mega-mutated murderers. Can't wait.

--

Also just hitting the internets earlier today is the all-new trailer for Screen Gems' PG-13 remake of "When a Stranger Calls," which you can see right here.

This one's a re-do of the classic "Have you checked on the children?" story, only instead of Carol Kane and Charles Durning, we got Camilla Belle and Brian Geraghty. Simon West, the man behind "Con Air," "The General's Daughter," and "Tomb Raider," is in the director's chair for this remake, which opens on February 3rd.

--

So there you are: Trailers for two new remakes of two 70s horror flicks. And now you have at least two months in which to rent the originals. Don't forget!

wow, looks pretty good. But the original worked very well as a low budget b-movie, kind of like the original texas chainsaw massacre, so we'll see.

Well, I really liked High Tension despite the lame-o "twist" ending, and I just watched the original Hills about a week ago. It looks like this one will do it justice. Hope the creepy bald guy makes a cameo.

"Hills" looks really good, got high hopes. I didn't think the original was that great anyway, definitely not a classic compared to Texas chainsaw so that new one might improve on it

Is it me, or does the entire film get shown in When a Stranger Calls trailer? I swear they got to stop doing this. It looks like the children in this version aren't dead at all(like the original) but actually hiding in a trunk. Yes, that's how much they reveal in the trailer. Watch closely.

The Hills Have Eyes looks really good. Very creepy. But you can't judge a book by it's cover. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre had a good trailer too and look how that turned out.

When A Stranger Calls just looks bad, though. It looks slick and polished, but the acting from the lead seems very bad. And they gave the whole story away in the trailer. Plus, after the days of Scream, I highly doubt people will be interested in seeing this.

im looking forward to both films, but i live in australia and realistically, we probably wont have them on our screens until july (and thats if the do well in the US). I'm a huge fan of horror but have not been remotely scared by a film. Ever. to me, they're just campy fun. My lifelong mission is to find a film that scares me. Wolf Creek came close, but just missed the mark.
