Trailer Bulletin: Flight 93
by Scott Weinberg | January 06, 2006
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Sure to cause a lot of controversy and water-cooler discussion is the upcoming handful of 9/11-centic movies, and the first one out of the gate will be Universal's "Flight 93," from director Paul Greengrass. Click right here to check out the all-new trailer for the film.

"Acclaimed filmmaker Paul Greengrass writes and directs an unflinching drama that tells the story of the passengers and crew, their families on the ground and the flight controllers who watched in dawning horror as United Airlines Flight 93 became the fourth hijacked plane on the day of the worst terrorist attacks on American soil: September 11, 2001.

"Flight 93" recreates the doomed trip in actual time, from takeoff to hijacking to the realization by those onboard that their plane was part of a coordinated attack unfolding on the ground beneath them. The film attempts to understand the abject fear and courageous decisions of those who-over the course of just 90 minutes-transformed from a random assembly of disconnected strangers into bonded allies who confronted an unthinkable situation.

As 2006 marks the passing of five years since the epochal events of 9/11, the time has come for contemporary cinema's leading filmmakers to dramatically investigate the events of that day, its causes and its consequences, and the everyday individuals whose fates were forever altered while simply going about their common workday rituals.

Greengrass, known for films such as "Resurrected" and "Bloody Sunday," brings to "Flight 93" a history of compassionate filmmaking that has explored some of the most troubled incidents of recent world history-when politics turns to violence, when beliefs slip into zealotry. As there is no perfect record of the hijacking's exact details and hostage retaliation, Greengrass takes a careful hand and partially improvises the events with an ensemble cast of unknown actors who were given studies of their Flight 93 counterparts.

"Flight 93" intends to dignify the memory of those on that flight, the men and women whose sacrifice remains one of the most heroic legacies of the incomprehensible tragedies that unfolded on that autumn morning."

"Flight 93" opens on April 28th. Mr. Greengrass' previous films include "The Bourne Supremacy" and "Bloody Sunday." (Thanks to ComingSoon.net for the official synopsis text.)

That trailer is horrible.
I've got no problems with them making this movie, but that trailer sure is as hell doesn't spark my interest one bit. Everyone knows what happened. I hope they aren't going to do some run of the mill "take what you've heard, and illustrate it with actors" approach. I hate distorting history, but in all honesty, what went on in the plane isn't exactly movie worthy. What the passangers did was heroic (even though what it is that they exactly did has never been proven. many just assumed in order to amplify the patriotic effects of 9/11), but i don't see how you can make an entertaining movie off what went on in the plane. i'm sure they're going to have to do a lot of lead up, lots of background info, and of course, use lots of drama through the victims of the crash. here is where they "imagination" will take place because we really don't know. they are going to try to convey the feeling and express it to the audience through the feelings of the passangers. getting the feeling across will be most important, because like i said, none of it can be 100% accurate.

I actually thought the trailer was pretty sweet. Not as interesting as i thought it would be when it started playing. But i mean it gave me goosebumps all over my body when the words came up about them standing as one. And I'm not even American. I will most deff be seeing this movie.

Oh soo agreed
This trailer also gave me goosebumps and I as well am not amarican. But when the words come up it sends chills up my spine is volleys. "9.11.2001. 40 ordinary people sat down as strangers, and stood up as one" There is just somthing very bone chilling about that." It was as good as the munich trailer for that reason alone.

Wow that trailer was boring, I don't see that as being any reflection on this movies potential quality though seeing as this is a very early trailer and it's highly likely none of the footage came from the film. Similar to the first trailer for the Da Vinci Code. As alluded to before it doesn't seem like a fertile ground for a film plot either. What are they going to show you won't see coming? Unless of course the film mainly focuses either A) on the backgrounds of the people going on to the flight or B) 9/11 in some sort of considerablly broader spectrum. The other issue I have is with the film coming out right now. I know it was bound to happen eventually but I'm just not ready to spend eight bucks to relive a tragedy it still seems too really to me. I think they could've waited atleast another ten years on this one.

Sure, boring trailer...

But I've already heard about some Award predictions for this movie... You have to admit, it sounds better then the other 9/11 stories so far.

With a cast of unknowns adn Greengrass behind this, I will def go and see it!

I don't see this teaser trailer, and I emphasize that it is only a teaser, as having to do much more than what it did. It made the public aware that there will be a film recounting the events of a day that nobody will ever forget. I had goosebumps watching it without having to once see an actors face. It made me extremely curious to see how the film plays out, especially knowing that its going to be done in real time with the actual events that happened. Does anyone know for sure what happened on the flight? No, but I feel confident that Paul Greengrass will not do a disservice to the families and memories of the people that gave their lives on that flight. And I'm especially grateful that he's using unknown actors to portray the passengers. Any "name" actor attached to the project would've only distracted from what the film needed to portray.

Sure puts the teaser in "teaser trailer"
I think I might want to go see this, although the acting really doesnt sound to good judging by the way they talk on the phone, if i was the director i would have them in dispair
