on Feb 02 2006 02:22 PM Sounds like it could be pretty good with Hirsch and Penn. This is one of my dad's favorite books of all time. (Reply to this) |

on Feb 02 2006 08:03 PM Good to see Penn directing again. I thought 'The Pledge' with Jack Nicholson was a great film. According to IMDB he is announced as producer on Stacy Peralta's 'In Search Of Captain Zero'. Cheers, Kevin (Reply to this) |
![]() on Feb 03 2006 11:57 AM In reply to this comment (#830697) If anyone can make "Into the Wild" boring, it is Sean Penn. I've seen "the Pledge", but never all at once because I couldn't ever stay awake. I think watching the grass grow would have been more entertaining than watching "the Pledge". (Reply to this) |

on May 02 2006 06:53 AM Alex Supertramp wasn't Seriously people, this kid was an Idiot. He did nothing special, and died soley because of his own stupidity. I've read the book. Been to the bus (years ago). Seen them filming the movie. McCandles life journey was not worth a book, and not worth a movie. (Reply to this) |

on Oct 06 2006 11:06 AM take another look It seems like most of the people who think McCandless was a fool live in rural Alaska and are much a part of the wild environment everyday. To them, it's really no big feat to just walk into the bush without the essential supplies, it's really just stupid and idiotic. I can understand that point of view, although I do think the kid was extrarodinary. He gave up a being born into a wealth family, all his money, car, everything just so he could live the way he wanted to. He could have done anything in life, anything at all, and what he truly wanted was to stay as grounded as he could and value the earth and his own way of thinking. He gave his parents one last nod of "thank you" when he agreed to go to college, where he had stellar grades, and graduated. He chose to live in a low-rent apartment with no furniture because he didn't need any furniture or niceties. Then he gaver all his savings away and walked the United States for many months with nothing. He just wanted to live that way. What we might never know is if he really meant to die out there. He hinted at dying in the bush before he even entered it, and it seems unreasonable to think someone who had already survived so long on his own wouldn't be able to find his way out. He did so much that was incredible before he even went to Alaska. But if I was someone from up there and had been there my whole life, I too might think he was dumb. (Reply to this) |
