Great article. I'm really into seeing this, despite the fact that I'm not a huge fan of Beyonce. She has a great voice, but acting.... who knows.

I'm glad that musicals are making their way back into the mainstream. Hope this one is as good as Chicago!

Thanks! I'm a fan of film musicals myself, so I'm really interested to see how Dreamgirls turns out. Also, the OutkAst musical Idlewild will be coming out only a few months prior, so I'm waiting to see how many comparisons get drawn between the two.

Movie Musicals of Late
I think the story of "Dreamgirls" lends itself to cinema and I think it will be done well based on the creative behind-the-scenes talent involved. I don't think it will make a ton of money because musicals are a hard sell. Yet the music to this show is accessible and is "radio-friendly" due to the fact that the show actually tackles the topic of "creating radio-friendly music." I'd push the music long before I would the movie.

There's a lot of wonderful statements made in the show about the music industry that I think fits in well today, and I think if the filmmakers can hook onto that idea they just might have a hit on their hands.

Pity "Rent" who had the right ideals but was handled by the wrong filmmakers. At least "Dreamgirls" feels right . . . so far.
