Steve Carell Receives RT's Golden Tomato Award!
Everybody's favorite virgin Steve Carell had a banner year in 2005 -- a hit show, a hit movie, and newfound celebrity status -- so RT's Senh flew down to LA to give the man that coveted golden mark of success: a Golden Tomato Award.
Some were surprised when Carell's mid-life coming-of-age comedy, "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," opened to critical acclaim last year, but who would have thought the adult-oriented pic would be one of the year's best? "Virgin" was Steve Carell's first major star turn, and the former "Daily Show" correspondent scored huge with audiences. Soon after its August release it was clear the critics loved this "Virgin," and the film earned Rotten Tomatoes' Certified Fresh stamp of approval.
When time came to tally up the year's best cinematical offerings in RT's annual Golden Tomato Awards, "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" came out on top as the Best Comedy of 2005. Carell himself was not only the star of "Virgin," he was also the co-writer and co-producer (along with director Judd Apatow), so we are proud to present him with the Golden Tomato!
Many thought "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," was unfairly passed over for an Oscar nod this year, so it’s nice to know Carell's got the next best thing on his mantelpiece: a bright, shining, perfect tomato made of gold. Yeeeeooooow Kelly Clarkson!

on Mar 05 2006 10:24 AM He is the most overrated person on Earth right now. "The 40 Year Old Virgin" was one of the worst films of last year. The only funny parts were in the commercial and the chest waxing scene was WAY too long. The only funny part that wasn't in the movie was "You know how I know you're gay? Cause you listen to Coldplay" which is one of the best lines of the year, but the movie sucked. His show is just stupid. He really shouldn't be praised, but stoned. (Reply to this) |

on Mar 05 2006 10:58 AM In reply to this comment (#831681) ...this coming from a person who thinks "Friends" is the best show ever. Carell is great. He's pretty much got it all and I just hope that he doesn't become too big too quickly and make bad career moves (Paging Will Ferrell..."Bewitched" is calling) It'll be nice to see him as Agent 86 in "Get Smart" (Reply to this) |

on Mar 06 2006 12:27 PM In reply to this comment (#831687) The pic is real. The only thing I touched up is the background to match the poster for 40-Year-Old Virgin. (Reply to this) |

on Mar 06 2006 05:45 PM In reply to this comment (#831691) Sorry, it looks fake, but that's probably because Steve is looks so funny (all of the time) and the background adds to that. In response to "name a funnier movie this year". I am not sure if I have seen any other comedy this year so I guess 40 year old virgin wins! (Reply to this) |

on Mar 07 2006 03:51 PM This is crap! "Just Friends" and "Wedding Crashers" were WAY funnier than your lpathetic "Virgin". Though, Deal or No deal is good. South_park300, what are you 10? Just because I don't like someone doesn't mean I'm jealous. I was just stating my opinion. (Reply to this) |

on Mar 10 2006 12:46 AM I don't really want to get into an argument from three days ago, but Just Friends was garbage. I was kinda drunk when I saw it, it didn't even really make me laugh, even at the jokes that were aimed at me (the target audience). 40 year old virgin was a very real (which is one of the reasons I liked it) and funny (the other reason). That was long disjointed and jumbled - enjoy. (Reply to this) |
