"Almighty" Sequel Begins Shooting in D.C.

Filming has begun on the hilarious comedy "Evan Almighty," starring Steve Carell, Morgan Freeman and Lauren Graham. (Funny how a studio press release can call an unfinished movie "hilarious.")

Comedy director Tom Shadyac ("The Nutty Professor," "Liar Liar"), who helmed the box-office hit "Bruce Almighty," returns behind the camera for this next episode of divine intervention written by Steve Oedekerk ("The Nutty Professor," "Bruce Almighty"), Josh Stolberg and Bobby Florsheim.

Carell reprises his role as Evan Baxter -- the polished, preening newscaster of the first film -- who finds himself the next one anointed by God (Freeman) to accomplish a holy mission.

Newly elected to Congress, Evan leaves Buffalo behind and shepherds his family to suburban northern Virginia. Once there, his life gets turned upside-down when God appears and mysteriously commands him to build an ark. But his befuddled wife (Graham) and kids just can't decide whether Evan is having an extraordinary mid-life crisis or is truly onto something of Biblical proportions ...

"Evan Almighty" features a supporting cast that includes John Goodman, Wanda Sykes, John Michael Higgins and up-and-coming young actors Jonah Hill, Jimmy Bennett, Graham Phillips and Johnny Simmons.

Evan Almighty will be filmed in Los Angeles, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Remakes, crappy TV shows being tunned into even crappier movies, and lame sequels without the orginal star. And Hollywood wonders why people are not flocking to the cinemas these days.

Steve Carrell might be a break-out star of the year and I am looking forward to him in Little Miss Sunshine, but I don't think he can pull this off... Although Tom Shadyac has made soem good comedies and Steve Oedekerk has made soem pretty funny short films and films... So, it could go either way.

well, the only "Jim Carey sequel minus Jim Carey, that I know of "Son of the Mask"". So, this couldn't be worse. After seeing The40YOV, I swore off Steve Carrell, but then i remembered he was good in this and "Anchorman". I was reading and thought it would suck, but I think it would be good. Maybe his only f-up will turn out to have been "The 40 Year Old Virgin", which I really don't see why so many people loved.

Carrey-less sequels
Don't forget Dumb & Dumberer. That movie was awful.

You forgot about Dumb and Dumberer, but who can blame you there? The way I see it, if Jim Carey wouldn't sign on for a sequel, he must really think it's going to suck. Maybe a better title for this would be "Really Dumb and Dumber: We Just Don't Learn."

oh, yeah! I saw a little of that on HBO. That movie sucked. I'll give this a rent. It'll be the first Jim Carey sequel that I see willingly.

Since Jim Carey isn't in it I guess you meant to say that it'll be the first Jim Carey-'less' sequel that you'll see willingly.

Why Morgan?
Everyone hails Morgan Freeman as this great actor, which, of course, he is. But few people recognize that he chooses a bunch of crap projects. "The Big Bounce"? "Bruce Almighty" and now this?

He can do better than this.

You don't get why so many people loved 40 Year Old Virgin? Maybe its because you think Friends is the best show ever, just a theory.

Yeah, the first Jim Carrey-less sequel of a Jim Carrey movie. But isnt it really a spin-off?

No, the movie's plot outline sounded hillarious! Some parts were funny, but it just got dumber and dumber. It is just pure stupidity. "Friends" is a great show!

Yea Jim Carrey-less sequel's usualy suck, but this could be ok, it does have Carell, Freeman, Shadyac, and John Goodman in it. At least it will easily be better than Son of the Mask and Dumb and Dumberer.

At least give this movie a different title, so it's less of a sequel and more its own story. "Evan Above"? "Evan Can Wait"? "Stairway to Evan"?? etc etc...
