The Barnyard is Opening Early ... Finally
by Scott Weinberg | April 19, 2006
Blog Article | Discuss Article
Paramount sent out a press release to inform us animation freaks that their CG comedy "Barnyard" will now be opening on July 28th, which pits the animated critters against "Miami Vice" and "Little Miss Sunshine." The flick was previously penciled in for 10/6, but that was Barnyard's third different release date. (The thing's bounced around Paramount's schedule for quite a while.)

"From Steve Oedekerk and Nickelodeon Movies, two of the co-creators of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, and filmed entirely in CGI, comes this hilarious look at what really happens in a barnyard when the farmer's back is turned. Barnyard is a lighthearted tale centering around Otis (voiced by Kevin James), a carefree party cow, who enjoys singing, dancing and playing tricks on humans. Unlike his father Ben (voiced by Sam Elliott), the respected patriarch of the farm, and Miles, the wise old mule (voiced by Danny Glover), Otis is unconcerned about keeping the animals' humanlike talents a secret. But when suddenly put in the position of responsibility, the "udderly" irresponsible cow finds the courage to be a leader."

This will be as great as The Wild. I liked it more when the CG movies were great; i.e. Toy Story, Finding Nemo, Shrek, Monsters inc.

Hopefully Oedekerk's humor will over power nickelodeon's. I love Kung Pow to death and his various adaptations of The "Thumb" series (Such as Thumb Wars) were great too. I hope this one will be a winner.

I thinks this sets up like a three or four weekend window in which three CGI films are slated to be released, Monster House, The Ant Bully, and Barnyard. Then Zoom is released somewhere in there also. It will be interesting to see if CGI finally reaches over saturation. Of course this could just be a dump technique in which case the results would be meaningless.

yes, I'm being petty...
but I hate mistakes like this. Cows are female. period. Bulls are male bovines.

I have said the same thing since I first saw the preview. Petty or not, I am with you.

This will probably suck. I'm keeping my hopes up for 'Over The Hedge'. Dreamworks made 'Madagascar' last year and I quite enjoyed that.

From the trailer of 'Monster House' my interest is a little peaked. From what I've heard, advance buzz is already good on 'The Ant Bully'.

Overall, this F'n CGI thing is going way out of control. Ice Age 2 sucked. I didn't even bother with Doogal or Hoodwinked (although I might watch it on cable). The Wild looks like a total rip-off of Madagascar. What's next? Remakes of CGI movies???

3D NO MORE...
i'm tired of 3d animated flicks. sure...it's 'EYECATCHING'...and 'STUNNING' effects.

but i would like to see animators go back to traditional 2d animation...2d shows more life in the characters than 3d. i dunno...all these 3d animated movies are getting a bit bland and lame. we have yet to see an extraordinary one come out (after the incredibles)

it would be nice to see something classic and traditional once in a while.

I hope Miami Vice kicks it's ass.

Agreed, but The Wild started before Madagascar.
