Getting to Know Lex Luthor
by Scott Weinberg | April 20, 2006
Blog Article | Discuss Article
IGN FilmForce thought it might be a good idea to re-introduce us to one of comicdom's most hated, and therefore most beloved, super-mega-villains. Click right here for a Luthor profile that, logically, focuses mainly on the actor playing the role. Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor remains a real treat, but Kevin Spacey? That's some pretty inspired casting right there, Superfans.

From IGNFF: "For this new incarnation of Lex Luthor, Spacey was the first choice, right from the start. "We'd always written that role with him in mind," says (Bryan) Singer. "He's an old friend and this is a great opportunity for all the obvious reasons.""

"It's "the kind of character that's more fun for him," says director Bryan Singer. "Each thing he's doing is so funny, or so strange, or sinister, that it's just fun for him. It's a joy."

Lex will incite trouble, and lots of it. "There will be no lack of intensity," says Singer."It'll probably be PG 13. I don't think you'll be disappointed at all in the level of intensity."

You know Superman 3 looks better than this movie. I hope I am wrong but I have zero excitement for this movie...it just looks bad.

I didn't know the film came out already. There hasn't even been a full trailer out yet. How can you make that kind of an assumption?

I am going to predict that this movie has a big opening weekend and then drops in half the second weekend. I am basing my prediction off of the really bad costumes and bad sets seen in the pictures and the bland looks on the faces of the actors. This is the same feeling I had when I forst saw pics for FF, Hulk, and Daredevil. Turns out I was right...all those films were terrible.

The costumes and sets are fine
In fact, Superman's costume is a combination of all the suits that came before: the comic version, the George Reeves version, and the Chris Reeve version. The sets look great as well, especially the Fortress and the Daily Planet. Granted, this is all subjective, but considering that this movie is one of the most anticipated of the year, the general public must not have a problem with it. Singer deserves major kudos for getting this project off the ground and away from the hacks that wanted to turn it into a toy movie.

I see the movie making quite a lot of money. It'll attract teens, adults, AND kids to the theaters. And that's all I have to say about that.
