Zimmer to Score Simpsons Flick

If you'd have asked me "Hey, Scott, here's a silly question, but ... who do you think they'll hire to write the score for next year's "The Simpsons Movie?" my answer would have been the same as any diehard Simpso-maniac...

"Either Danny Elfman, who long ago wrote the opening credits music -- or a guy named Alf Clausen, who's been doing brilliant musical work for the series since day one." (Clausen writes those brilliant musical sequences: The monorail song, the Kwik-E-Mart ditty, the Maison Derriere tune, the 'Planet of the Apes' stage parody, and (my favorite) the hilarious 'See My Vest.')

Well, word's come in that the gig went to ... Hans Zimmer -- a fine composer, but not the first guy you'd think of where "The Simpsons" are concerned.

Says Soundtrack.net: "Now that it has been mentioned on the Gorfaine-Schwartz Agency website, SoundtrackNet can reveal that composer Hans Zimmer is expected to write the score for the feature film version of 'The Simpsons.'"

Mr. Zimmer's best-known scores include "Rain Man," "Gladiator," and "Batman Begins." He also won an Oscar for his contributions to "The Lion King."

Hans Zimmer is a good composer when it comes to action, comedy, and drama. So no doubt will he fit the bill for "The Simpsons Movie." Just wait until the movie comes out before you pass judgement.

The fact that they are not using Danny Elfman to score, could be the first sign that this film will not live up to the show's greatness.

Good call. I think Danny Elfman has lost his touch...Corpse Bride and Wonka were mostly highly forgetable (excluding the Wonk theme)

bravo to Zimmer for Batman Begins, but I think that The Simpsons movie would be better off with Elfman and Clausen collaberating. The Simpsons is not just a cartoon made to movie, it is a part of pop culture history, scratch that it is a good part of history. As this is written the creators and the writers are creating episodes that continue to close the gap between generations. There are parents enjoying new episodes with their children every Sunday. Anyone who has ever been a part of The Simpsons should want to be apart of it, and anyone, who has the talent, who wants to come aboard should. The film has a little more than a year untill it is finally shown. They have time to perfect it, and for now I will give them the benifit of the doubt.
