Pacino Dives into Ocean's Gang
Legendary actor Al Pacino will join the (obviously massive) cast of Steven Soderbergh's "Ocean's Thirteen," says Variety. Odds are he'll be playing a villain, but plot details are being kept quiet. Pacino joins newcomer Ellen Barkin and series regulars George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, etc.
Says Variety: "Al Pacino has been added to Steven Soderbergh's "Ocean's Thirteen" gang.

Jerry Weintraub is producing the pic, which has a July 21 start date. Shooting is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. "Rounders" scribes Brian Koppelman and David Levien penned the script.
Details of the plot are being kept under wraps, but Warners revealed that Pacino will be playing Willie Banks, the owner of a high-profile casino and hotel in Las Vegas."
Previous reports indicate that neither Julia Roberts nor Catherine Zeta-Jones will be on board this time -- although the "Ocean" flicks snag cast-members like flypaper, so only time will tell.
Additionally, Cinematical reports that Clooney wants to find some room for Sacha Baron Cohen (aka Ali G) in this second sequel.
Also currently scheduled to return for "Ocean 3" are Don Cheadle, Bernie Mac, and Andy Garcia.

on Apr 26 2006 07:33 AM Like De Niro, there was a time when Pacino's name on a movie guaranteed quality. Like De Niro, Pacino's name on a movie these days guarantees nothing. Only time will tell if Ocean's 13 is any good. (Reply to this) |

on Aug 16 2006 11:17 AM In reply to this comment (#834298) Pacino vs. Deniro vs. Legend Pacino, minus Simone, Any Given Sunday and Two for the Money still chooses solid roles. Angels in America, Merchant of Venice, etc. Deniro sold out long ago and started doing crap: Mad Dog and Glory, Meet the Parent/Fockers, etc. etc. When you start getting second billing (to a little gril no less), its time to pack it in. There is no question Deniro is a icon and eclipses Pacino's talent, especially after Pacino's Scent of a Woman Slade, who he has channeled in every movie since, but c'mon, let's put it where it is. There aren't many kick ass meaty roles for older stereotyped Italian actors (minus the mob genre that they both helped create) in hollywood. (Reply to this) |
