Johnny Depp to Play INXS Frontman?
by Scott Weinberg | April 25, 2006

A site called TheHollywoodNews.com brings an intriguing little report -- even if it deals more with Australia than it does Hollywood. Seems that some filmmakers down under are planning to do a fact-based bio-pic on the late Michael Hutchence, former lead singer of the resoundingly popular band INXS. (Well, they were resoundingly popular in the late '80s, anyway. I was there.)

Although it's made pretty clear that no contracts have been signed, the producers of "Slide Away" are hoping to woo none other than Johnny Depp to star as Hutchence, who died of self-strangulation in 1997.

Depp in "The Secret Window"

"The producers have been talking to the creme de la creme of Australian writers including Stephen Elliott ("The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert") and Jacqueline Perske ("Little Fish," "Love My Way").

Cast talent are also being mooted, with names like Johnny Depp, Hayden Christensen and Eric Bana being bandied about."

First Rockstar INXS, now this..... what is the big deal about this band? It's too bad he died but it's not like he was ever really that good a singer.

Great album
download a couple of their songs, then you will see why all these publicity does them justice. The industry needs something sexy, and INXS is the answer.

disagree! there were three bands girls wanted to F- the frontman back in their heyday. as you're a guy you don't understand that.

While dying young is sad, it doesn't automatically make you an interesting movie subject.

The way Hutchence died was quite embarrasing as well.....
