More Joker Jabber
It's been about eight days since we got our last piece of gossip on who might be playing The Joker in "Batman Begins Again," so why not head on over to IGN FilmForce for the latest piece of juicy hearsay. (And no, that's not the sequel's title. I just made it up.)
"Batman-on-Film has a rundown on which actors are rumored to be up for the role of The Joker in the next Batman movie. The site points out that rumors of Hugo Weaving ("V for Vendetta," "The Matrix," "LOTR") being in the running for the Clown Prince part have resurfaced."

Fans of freaky cinema will be disappointed to learn that Crispin Glover is pretty much out of the running for the role. Darnit.

elziard writes: on Apr 25 2006 09:58 AM i like the casting and i like a lot of your suggestions too. it's a great role and jack nicholson owned it in the '89 flick. even mark hamill has created his own joker and lest not forget ceasar romero... this is a great role and anyone of these actor could do it justice. personally, Buscemi i'd be most interested in what he coud do. but weaving brings the sinister and deep and his voice is haunting. he'll be perfect for it. South_park300 writes: on Apr 25 2006 11:19 AM all in all, it seems there are MANY actors that would be good for the Joker. i just hope one of the speculated ones gets picked, and NOT someone from out of nowhere (like worst case scenario Adam Sandler gets cast, THAT would be from outta nowhere, not that that would be anyone in the running for it, you know what i mean) Personally, I'm for Johnny Depp or Crispin Glover(although that guy weirds me out WAY too much) but Hugo would be good as well. t-joint writes: on Apr 25 2006 11:28 AM In reply to this comment (#834320) For the character of Batman to be fully realized you HAVE to bring Joker. They compliment each other and represent excellent psychological dichotomy. Oh, and Jack's great in whatever he does, but I would have much preferred Burotn's first choice, Wilem Dafoe. Merlin235 writes: on Apr 25 2006 12:23 PM Hugo Weaving I can't deal with Hugo. It isn't that I don't like him, I do. It's just that any time he opens his mouth, I'm thinking, "Hello, Mr. Anderson." It takes me right out of the movie. (Reply to this) |

arpeggio191 writes: on Apr 25 2006 12:36 PM In reply to this comment (#834325) you need to expand your Hugo Weaving library... See Pricilla: Queen of the Desert. If you can watch that movie and still thing "Hello Mr. Anderson" then you're a lost cause. Cripsen (like many) was my first choice too. Despite the fact that he's out now doesn't mean that the Joker will suck. Hugo Weaving will do an excellent job if he gets the part, and I really hope he does... i'm a huge fan. The other problem that most people have with comic book movies is that they assume that only one actor can play the character. That, or "holy crap, you can't remake the Tim Burton movies, they killed off the Joker." Let me remind you all of how received Christian Bale was after both Kilmer and Clooney (i'm sorry, while I pretend they don't exist, they sadly do.) First of all, the biggest problem is that just because a movie is made with certain characters, doesn't mean that another one can't be made with the same characters. As long as the story is different, there's nothing wrong with that. How many comic books are there with both Batman and Joker? Shitloads... but they are mostly different stories, different battles, different circumstances. Furthermore (yes, i busted out "furthermore"), Tim Burton's movies were good, but not true to anything. He made up the story with those characters, giving people what they wanted: a dark, gloomy batman. Thankfully it was a good movie. I agree with the post above that Nolan can do whatever he wants. He isn't going to make it campy cause that's not his style. (Scheumacher should be shot). Either way, as long as they don't cast adam sandler, i'm sure Nolan and company will make a good movie. I'll just hope that it's Hugo cause he rules! (Reply to this) |
