"Iron Man" Screenplay = Good Enough?
by Scott Weinberg | April 26, 2006
Discuss Article
The movie freaks over at Latino Review (apparently) got a peek at the screenplay for New Line's eventual "Iron Man" flick, as written by genre specialists Alfred Gough, Miles Millar, and David Hayter. Since I refuse to ever read a script review, I can't offer much commentary, but the LR guys give the screenplay a grade of B- (or "good enough"), which would make it better than "Fantastic Four," at least.

Iron Man is one of the most popular Marvel characters to not yet receive his very own movie. The package has been shuttling around Tinseltown for ages, though, and I think I remember Tom Cruise asking to play the titular tin-man on more than one occasion. Nick Cassavetes, who displayed his action-flick prowess on films like "The Notebook" and "She's So Lovely," is the director on board ... last we heard.

Tom Cruise "Iron Man?"

For those who aren't experts on comic book lore, Iron Man is a supernatural nutritionist who teleports into kitchens all over the world, frequently thwarting bone disease and always treating women to the iron that their metabolism so desperately craves.

Nah, just kiddin'. Iron Man's a mega-rich inventor named Tony Stark who fights evil from inside a seriously nifty suit made entirely of week-old pudding-skin. (Just kidding again; the suit's made of iron.)

Expect "Iron Man" to hit theaters some time before, oh, 2013. New Line promises a "2007" release date.

"Good enough." About what I expect from the corporate whores at Marvel nowadays. Just get the flick out, merch it to death, then move on to ruin another character.

punisher was a dud and though daredevil showed promise, they crammed in about 25 years of DD lore into 90mins with the worst visualization of bullseye EVER!

then elektra >shudder< and apparently next on the dud list is ghost rider.

Fantastic four was commercially popular but critically and fanboy panned.

iron man has potential as long as tom cruise's thetan level doesn't rise while filming.
he'd make a good tony stark: arrogant, >ahem!< "man's man (does anyone remember some of the hairdo's and the signature mustache?), overly intense and apparently the ladies man.

Never been into the iron-man lore. My question is: can iron-man resist extremely powerful electromagnets? My guess is that Magneto would wipe the floor with iron-man, wouldn't he?

Now we are going on the opinons of the Latino Review... okay nothing personal but if they were the first to get a glimpse of the script and report on it then it really must not be that great.

They generally get a ton of scripts first actually. The name is odd, but probably AICN is the only site that gets more.

Might as well give it to a spanish actor right? I mean it's only fair right?

If War Machine's not in this, then what's the point? Seriously, I'm unfamiliar with the breadth of Man de la Iron's roguery.

I nominate Dax Shepard for Tony Stark. Built like a brick sh*thouse, looks like Zach Braff. What's not to cheer for???
