Silver Surfer to Show Up in "Fantastic Four 2"

Fox's "Fantastic Four" sequel has already staked out a July 2007 release date, which means we should start hearing some comic book tidbits before too long. Oh wait, here's one: the cult-favorite Silver Surfer character is scheduled to be a participant in the follow-up!

According to Variety, "A Surfer feature has been in Fox's arsenal for a decade, but the studio waited because project is so ambitiously f/x-heavy and Fox has been busy with other Marvel franchises.

The wait ends with "FF2." Storyline is being finalized, with the studio about to choose between a script by "X2" scribe Mark Frost and another by Don Payne, who scripted Fox/New Regency's "My Super-Ex Girlfriend."

While sources said Payne's script had the nod, and the Surfer, a studio spokesman denied that anything was set and that the Surfer was one of several plot possibilities. Fox wants to be sure a guest-starring stint doesn't wash out future feature plans."

Mark Frost wrote "Fantastic Four." Far as I can tell, he's not credited on any of the "X-Men" films.

Why oh Why must they make a sequel to Fantastic Four in the first place? Just give the movie to Silver Surfer. As long as michael chicklis is back as the thing in the next one, and theres an alright plot, i might give it a shot.

they had all originally signed on for three movies just like they made all the actors sign up for three movies in Spiderman and so on

I'm tellin' ya, without Alba's wretchedly gratuitous bra & pantie shot, you'd be looking at one of the biggest box office duds in history. Don't know about anyone else, but as a fan of the comic, I was terribly resentful of that. That Marvel's flagship title couldn't survive on it's own merits and had to settle for such juvenile pandering is more than a little disappointing. I expect better (as well as no Tim Story) for the next film.

As you're all aware I'm sure, tomato-meter ratings have almost nothing to do with box office results. FF, as crappy as some people think it was, made $200 million. I guess someone liked it right?

If you're comparing Batman and Robin to FF, then you got probs. FF wasn't quite as cheesy. And, I thought the special effects weren't too shabby either. Also, I thought it was great on their part not to go the Hulk way and do the Thing in CGI. I wish they coulda just got a big man to play the Hulk. It woulda been better IMO. I loved FF, but, it wasn't the best. Oh, yeah, and unlike Batman and Robin, FF has a better public rating. For instance, on imdb.com it has like a 6.0 or something. And on here it's fairly high.

Aw, snap! I meant to put in "Batman Forever". I wouldn't compare "Batman & Robin" to the stuff I scrape off my shoe! However, those two films are irrevocably interchangeable in my mind. But I digress....

It's not the cheese factor or the special effects I'm comparing. My point was that crappy or so-so movies can still make large bank and that buying a ticket to a movie is far different than LIKING the movie. Sure, the majority of viewers who bothered to give their opinions liked the film, but it wasn't by a very wide margin. Overall, the user ratings on this site (a splat at 59%), boxofficemojo, and IMDB don't give FF more than an anemic B rating at best. Hardly a ringing endorsement.

But, I digress again. This is all about Norrin Radd. As long as there's no talk of Vin Diesel, I'll be happy.
